  • For the first time since 1940, CDC outlined new regulations to stop outbreaks of dangerous contagious diseases.
  • The National Academy for State Health Policy released a checklist for states to assess the impact of ACA repeal on state Medicaid programs and identify efforts in preparation for repeal.
  • Tennessee now offers long-acting reversible contraception in 41 state jails through a partnership with the Tennessee Department of Health.
  • The Georgia Department of Public Health celebrated the submission of their application to receive national accreditation with the Public Health Accreditation Board. 
CONGRESSIONAL CORNER
Capitol Hill is focused on the confirmation process for President Trump’s cabinet nominees. Judge Neil Gorsuch has been nominated to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. Action to repeal and replace the ACA has slowed considerably.
 
HEALTH POLICY UPDATE
Vaccines remain a vital and cost-effective public health intervention to prevent and control diseases, and state legislatures play an active role in developing vaccination laws that balance public health benefits with individual autonomy.
