Keepin' It Real Workshop Tonight
Dear Neighbors,

The 18th District has issued alerts for our area involving robberies, thefts of catalytic converters, and garbage burglaries.

Summer typically brings a spike in crime in our Ward, but be on the lookout for the trends listed below. Our 18th District Commander, Dan O'Shea, assures me that tactical teams are assigned to our area, as well as increased bike patrols.

In the robbery incidents , the victims on the street using their cell phones when the offenders approached and forcibly took their cell phones and other property, in one case by pushing the victim down.

Incident times and locations:

  • 2000 block of North Burling St., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in the evening hours.
  • 1300 block of North Cleveland St., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in the evening hours.
  • 1800 block of North Halsted St., Saturday, July 21, 2018 in the early afternoon hours.

About the Offenders:

  • 2-3 Male, African Americans, 16-22 years old.


Garage burglaries - the offenders removed items from open garages at these times and locations:

  • 2000 block of N. Sheffield Ave., on July 7-8, 2018 in the overnight hours.
  • 2100 block of N. Clifton Ave., on July 9, 2018 in the afternoon hours.
  • 2200 block of N. Clifton Ave., on July 11, 2018 in the evening hours.
  • 1800 block of N. Poe St., on July 16, 2018 in the morning hours.

About the Offender:

  • Male, African-American, 20-30 years old, and bald

Catalytic converter thefts committed by unknown offender(s) who cut off and removed the converter from the victim's car.

Incident times and locations:

  • 2000 block of North Howe St., on July 18, 2018 during the early morning hours.
  • 1700 block of North Orchard St., on July 17, 2018 during the late evening to early morning hours.
  • 1900 block of North Fremont St., on July 14, 2018 in the late evening to early morning hours.
  • 1600 block of North Orchard St., on July 17, 2018 in the late evening to early morning hours.
  • 500 block of West Armitage Ave., on July 17, 2018 in the afternoon hours.

About the Offenders:

  • Unknown at this time


Working together, we can enhance public safety in our community. These reminders are quite basic, but, police encourage:

  • Stay off your cell phone as much as possible when walking
  • Put your location services On and Install the "find my phone" app. If your phone is taken, police on the scene have the capability to allow you to log into those apps from their police cars for quick phone tracking.
  • Secure your garage door every day. Install a new lock if your old lock is bad.
  • If you live near where these crimes occur, check your home security cameras for the dates listed - video will help investigators.
  • Keep vehicle doors locked and windows secure.
  • Keep valuables in the trunk or out of sight in your vehicle.
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information.

TONIGHT: Keepin' It Real Burglary Workshop

All community members are invited to the "Keepin' It Real" Burglary Workshop by the 19th Police District Community Policing Office. At this workshop, you will hear an in-depth discussion on burglary awareness and prevention from a panel of convicted burglars. This is a highly informative evening that I hope you will consider attending.

Lincoln Avenue Closed for Crane Removal

The Lincoln Common south tower crane removal begins today, Thursday, July 26th and continues through Saturday, July 28th. Lincoln Avenue will be closed from the entrance of the main parking garage south to Belden Avenue. You can still access the parking garage from the North.
Weekend Reminder

Lincoln Avenue from Fullerton to Wrightwood will be closed and Saturday and Sunday for Taste of Lincoln Avenue.
