Shooting Range Design

As is the case with most training center related projects; the design, construction and operation of a live fire shooting range is a once-in-a-career project for law enforcement agencies and their staff. This month we are pleased to provide valuable insights from Troy Acoustics on how to avoid the common mistakes. Troy is the recognized leader in the design and installation of indoor and outdoor shooting range noise control and acoustics.

The critical design issue points explained in the paper include:
  1. Does Your Range Meet the OSHA Standard?
  2. Don't Be Told You Can Only Fire 9 Rounds
  3. Look at Acoustic Options in The Design Stage
  4. Did You Consider Noise Levels in Adjoining Classrooms or Offices?
  5. Indoor and Outdoor Ranges Must Comply with Most Local Noise Ordinances
  6. Poor Choices Result in More Headaches
  7. Standard Acoustic Tiles Are Not an Option
  8. ETL 11-18 Is A Terrific Resource
  9. Plastic Like Products Show Low Performance
  10. Rubber Works Well in A Shoot House Not in A Range
  11. Limit Your Use of Rubber If You Must Have It
  12. Outdoor Ranges Present Different Challenges

Skidcar System

The SKIDCAR SYSTEM® is an advanced driver training solution that teaches drivers to anticipate car control problems before they occur. With SKIDCAR™, drivers experience exactly how a vehicle will behave in situations that can cause traction loss, including adverse weather, excessive speed, rapid braking or steering errors. But unlike other programs that simply teach reactionary motor skills, SKIDCAR trains drivers to think, maintain control, and avoid trouble ahead of time.
