AN AMAZING MAY! |
Hello CCR Supporters!
You really turned a pretty rough May for CCR into an amazing one! As you know, this month has been extremely challenging for CCR. From a medical perspective - we did Maximus' orthopedic surgery, did three dental surgeries for senior dogs, treated a total of FIVE puppies for parvovirus, one puppy for pneumonia and that's just the MAJOR Medical. We had the sad experience of losing one of our pups to parvovirus several weeks ago, the very night that he arrived at CCR eventhough upon his arrival we drove him straight to the hospital. Sadly, we were also reminded that there are so many people really struggling in the current economy as two very loved CCR dogs were returned to us because of a lost job and consequent home foreclosure. There was not a dry eye around when Thunder and Precious came back to the shelter with their my who was so choked up, she could barely speak.
However, as with so many other times in life and at the shelter, when you really feel you cannot take one more piece of bad news .... things start to turn around. THANK GOODNESS for our volunteers and donors. Your donations of your valuable time, garage sale items, shelter supplies and money literally KEPT our shelter doors open last month. Volunteer efforts from Krispy Kreme Donut Sales, the Garage Sale(s), Beer Tents and even individual fundraising efforts by volunteers raised nearly $10,000 in the month of May ensuring that CCR made it - emotionally and financially. Thank you so much to the BEST volunteers around from the bottom of our hearts!
So....now that you know that we truly survive because of YOU!!! Please don't forget that you really can turn a Party or Family Get-Together into a Supply Drive or Puppies 911 Donation Party! We have heard so many heartwarming stories from volunteers about how happy and excited their guests were to be getting together to have some fun AND do some good! Kids' lemonade stands, bake sales, garage sales, jean days - Save Lives, it's that simple. If you have an idea or would like some help, email Lisa@chicagocaninerescue.com! |

Thank you SO much to all of you that dug into your pockets and helped out the sick CCR puppies. Athena is doing better, but is still not eating on her own, so she remains hospitalized until she is eating and completely stable. Herbie also remains in the hospital, but the docs believe that he will be ready to be released tomorrow as he is feeling much better, but has only just started to eat on his own. Sunshine, Cleo, and Callie are still recovering nicely. NO additional puppies have become ill at this time, so we are hopeful that this crisis is coming to an end for now. Thank you, again, for making it possible for CCR to treat gravely ill animals with the aggressive response that is required to give them a chance to live. These puppies would not have had a chance without the support of people like you. |

Dog of the Month.... Kanga

KANGA
Kanga is a one year old pittie mix lady waiting for a foster or forever family. Kanga came to CCR with her daughter, Roo. This dynamic duo was very fun to have around, but Roo has already been adopted and we know Kanga would like to find her forever home as well. Kanga goes on walks with other dogs and even enjoys a quick jog, too. She is playful and affectionate and loves to romp around with her toys with the staff! If you are interested in adopting or fostering Kanga, please visit our website for forms or email anna@chicagocaninerescue.com if you have already fostered or adopted from CCR before! Kanga is excited to dedicate herself to her own family! |

Volunteer of the Month... Rachel Findlay
Rachel with CCR Bracken.
CCR is so lucky to have volunteer, Rachel Findlay, on our Team! Rachel is a huge animal lover and is pursuing becoming a dog trainer. Rachel started helping the CCR dogs by coming in to the shelter and working with them to get better photos. Her great photos have sent more than just a few dogs home faster! Realizing that some times it took a couple of days for the new photos to get posted to our site, she also offered to learn how to use our software system. Rachel now takes the photos and gets them up on our site on her own. She also fostered CCR's Carter and taught him basic obedience making him so much more adoptable! Many thanks to Rachel! |

New Section - Happy Adopter Letter of the Month
There is nothing better than receiving a card or note from a Happy Family! Enjoy!

Photo of little Bob in his foster home. Photo of him with his best gal pal, years later.
NOTE FROM HIS MAMA: I was just going through paper work and I found some paperwork from you guys. We adopted our boy Vader formally known as Bob from you guys in May of 2005. I just wanted to send you an update and thank you once again.
Vader came to us labeled a pitbull. When we got him from you he was at the most amazing foster home ever. Most spoiled dog ever! When we brought him home, he suddenly started growing very very fast, so fast kennel training was no longer an option. I knew he looked like a pittie but I knew that pittie's didn't get that big! We took him to the vet and found out he was actually a great dane/pittie mix. Such a goofy looking puppy.
Needless to say Vader is now about to be 8 years old this year and he is seriously the best addition to our family ever. His older sister pitbull Heidi passed away last year after living 14 long years and battling cancer. He now has a furry little pitbull sister who is a year younger then him, that he grew up with and he is best friends with. He also has an older kitty sister and a younger kitty brother who is only 1 year and he loves to ride on Vader's back!
Vader has had two surgeries for mass cell tumors to be removed and is 100% healthy now. He still looks like a puppy, just with a lot of grey!
A few years back I found out I couldn't have children and I wanted to thank you guys because I think this revelation would have been a lot different had I not had Vader. He is my child. Fur and tail sure but I love him just the same.
Your guys rescue is by far the best experience I ever had with furry adoptions and if there's anything I can ever do to help, please let me know.
I know this was a long time ago, but if any of you remember who was Vader's (Bob's) foster family was please let me know. They had his Mom and brothers and sisters and a baby rottie. She was a big part of the adoption process and I promised we would stay in contact and we never did. I'd love to send her a pic of Vader now. :)
Thank you again! Brittany & Jeremy
NOTE: If you were or know who originally fostered Bob, please email us!
