White Like Me:  A Honky-Dory Puppet Show *

Paul Zaloom
Dixon Place 161a Chrystie Street New York, NY

May 25-June 9

Fridays & Saturdays @ 7:30 - May 25, 26, June 1, 2
Friday & Saturday @ 9:30 - June 8 & 9

Paul Zaloom employs the intimate medium of toy theater to tell the story of the archetypal 'White Man' who leaves his planet Caucazoid, travels through space to "civilize" Earth, becomes a philanthropist, a savior, and finally freaks out about his approaching minority status. The puppet cast is drawn from a gigantic collection of bric-a-brac collected over the years including action figures, toy cars, dolls, found objects, weird junk, and more. Plus, Zaloom's creepy dummy sidekick, Butch Manly, drops in to spoil the fun. Don't miss this rare NYC appearance of this legendary downtown puppeteer - his first in 15 years.

All Weather Ballads *

Sandglass Theater

June 1-2

8:00pm

A performance of dry humor, ironic poignancy, and elemental cursing. This music and visual theater piece portrays the stages of life through metaphors grounded in the northern rural experience: when we are stuck in the mud, lost in the aroma of harvest fruit, or reflected in the frozen membrane of an icy lake. Immerse yourself in a sense of place and reflect on how we weather the storms and dry spells of our lives.

OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION: Following the performance on Friday, June 1, there will be a "Meet the Artist" reception with refreshments and live music-- all are welcome!

This performance is recommended for ages 14 and older.

* Recipient of a Henson Foundation Project Grant (2008)

The Collector is a mysterious tale, set in an alternate reality, about a lowly debt collector, who, under the management of a mechanical, tyrannical overseer, undergoes a radical transformation of spirit in the process of collecting outstanding debts. Performed with toy theatre, table-top puppets, object theatre, stop motion animation and film. The collector will invite the audience to question what things they hold most dear and what it is they cannot live without. The score of the collector is created live through collaboration with San Diego experimental music composer Margaret Noble.
