Meet and Greet with Olympian and World Champion, Zola Budd
Zola Budd, Olympian and world champion, will be making a rare appearance at Runners High 'n Tri on Sunday, October 2nd, 2011 at 4:00pm. Budd catapulted herself into fame when she broke the world record for the women's 5000 meters at the young age of 17. Her junior world records in the 3K and the mile have yet to be broken.
Famous for her unique barefoot style of running, and unfortunately remembered for her collision with Mary Dicker at the 1984 Olympics, Budd is a true running legend. She is still a phenomenal runner, and her story is the truly inspiring. She began running for enjoyment as a child in South Africa and eventually turned to running faster as a way to comfort herself after a tragic and rarely-talked-about loss. Her collision with Decker drew more attention, as did her status as a citizen of an Apartheid country. Hear how Budd's life has changed and how her love for running has not changed over the years. This is surely an opportunity you won't want to miss.
