Quality Web-Based Training

According to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO 9001:2015 is the most widely used International Standard in the world.

ISO 9001:2015 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to (although this is not a requirement). It can be used by any organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact, there are over one million companies and organizations in over 170 countries certified to ISO 9001.

This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including: strong customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, the process approach, continual improvement, evidence-based decision making, and relationship management. The attached ISO publication, Quality Management Principles (QMP), provides an excellent overview of the ISO 9001:2015 QMPs.

Using ISO 9001:2015 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits.

By now, many of us are aware of how ISO 9001:2015 employs the process approach which incorporates the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) improvement cycle and risk-based thinking. A well-rounded understanding of the basic requirements of the standard is a good starting point. At Quality Web-Based Training, we have seen a recent marked activity increase in companies seeking training in making the transition to ISO 9001:2015.

In a newly-released ASQTV presentation, John Vandenbemden, CEO, Q-Met-Tech, discusses the ISO 9001:2015 revision, and the transition process within an organization’s quality management system http://videos.asq.org/the-management-system-iso-90012015. John makes several excellent points for companies engaging in the quality management system transition process.

A "Where the Rubber Meets the Road Approach"
Using Escapes Methodology

Synopsis by J.P. Russell: The article promotes the thought that nonconforming products and services escape your organization and reach the customer. Escaped products and services must be addressed so that they do not recur. Toward the end of the article there is a handy chart showing the steps to address escapes. However, I also found the author’s review of the development of modern quality concepts was very good and well documented. A good introduction to problem solving with a twist. Note: JP Russell is Managing Director, Quality Web-Based Training. This article was submitted to QualityWBT in response to “Become a Published Author” at the www.qualitywbt.com website.
