LPS Schedules Long Range Planning Meetings
Liberty Public Schools invites our district stakeholders to provide us help in determining the long range planning priorities of LPS.  There are two Community Input Meetings focusing on district long range planning, the first coming tomorrow evening at Discovery Middle School at 6 p.m.  Hollis+Miller Architects will be present assisting in this process.  Below are the details for these upcoming meetings.  We hope you can make plans to attend!

Cold and Flu Season in Full Swing
As you have probably seen on the news, flu season is hitting the Kansas City area at a brisk pace.  It is not too late to get a flu shot for you and your children.  Sometimes it is also necessary for students to stay home from school.  To help break the cycle of common contagious illnesses, students need 24 hours without the help of medication to be fever free (below 100 degrees), diarrhea free, vomit free, and free of continuous coughing.  For more helpful information about influenza and cough etiquette visit the LPS website by clicking here.
Summer Adventure 2017 Enrollment Window Now Open
This year's Summer Adventure 2017 online enrollment window for kindergarten through 8th grade students is now open.  Additional information may be found on the summer school website by clicking here

LPS News to Know
Incoming 6th/9th Grade Student Residency Verification Information
Attention parents of students entering the 6th and 9th grades for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year, LPS will be implementing a new residency verification policy.  This will be a requirement for students to start on the first day of school (August 16, 2017).  The calendar window to submit required documentation will be June 15 - July 29, 2017.  Parents are encouraged to begin gathering the information below to submit during the calendar window to avoid long lines and/or enrollment delays:
  • Residency declaration form
  • A copy of parent/guardian photo ID
  • Acceptable proofs of residency
    (Two different utilities - Water, Gas, or Electric OR Lease Agreement OR Non-contingent home sales contract OR settlement statement from home purchase
EPiC Elementary Enrollment Information 
If you are interested in placing your child's name in the EPiC Elementary randomized lottery process for enrollment in the 2017-2018 school year, the online enrollment is now open. For more information regarding EPiC's enrollment process, visit their website at or call the EPiC office at 816-736-5730. Enrollment is open through February 28, 2017.
2017-2018 Kindergarten Enrollment Open 
Attention parents of children who will enter Liberty Public Schools as 2017-2018 kindergartners! The kindergarten enrollment window is now open. Children must be 5-years-old by August 1, 2017, and must reside within LPS boundaries. For more information regarding kindergarten enrollment, click here

Advanced Placement Exam Registration Now Open  
High school students currently enrolled in Advanced Placement courses may now register for AP exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered. This year, each AP exam costs $100 with a $10 registration fee per student. Exam fees may be paid online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration if you wish to pay online. Payment may also be made by check and mailed to Total Registration at the address shown on the confirmation page. Students in need of financial assistance may request it during the registration process. Registration is not complete until the confirmation page has been printed.

  • Friday, March 3, at 11:59 p.m. - Registration ends.

Benjamin Ross is National Merit Finalist 
Dr. Martin Jacobs, principal at Liberty North High School is pleased to announce senior Benjamin Ross, son of Kevin and Lucy Ross, has been named a finalist in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Over 1 million US high school students entered the competition. As a finalist, Benjamin is eligible to earn one of 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, which are valued at a total of more than $36 million.
Congratulations and best wishes to this outstanding senior student as he continues on with his educational endeavors. We are proud of you for this national accomplishment.

Students Named to Midwest Honor Band 
Congratulations to seven of our South Valley Middle School Band students for being nominated and selected as members of the prestigious 2017 Midwest Honor Band and Orchestra Festival held at UMKC this weekend. The Bulk of Festival time is spent in rehearsals, during which students will work with renowned conductors and directors from around the country, culminating in a performance at the Finale Concert on Sunday on the campus of UMKC.
These students include:  Micaela Cook- Clarinet , Emma Skinner-Clarinet, Leah Pershing-Alto Saxophone , Jacob Buckholz-Euphonium, Nick Bogaard- Tuba , Elias Ealey- Percussion, and Tim Fuller- Percussion

Show Tickets Now on Sale!
Tickets for LPS Spring Theatre productions are now on sale.  If you would like to use a credit card to purchase advance tickets, please go to the LPS Fine Arts Department website, by clicking here, and click on the ShowTix4U logo near the top of the page. You may also call the Fine Arts Office at 736-5660 and provide credit card information over the phone or stop by our office at 801 Kent Street in Liberty to purchase tickets with credit card, cash, or check.
Online ticket sales will end at noon on opening night for all performances of that show.  For example, if opening night is on a Thursday, online ticket sales end at noon on Thursday for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances. 
If there are still tickets available, they will be sold at the school's box office starting one hour before the show.  We can only accept cash or checks at the box office...NO credit cards.

LNHS Preps for Courtwarming Festivities 
We are excited to celebrate this year's Road 2 Victory Courtwarming festivities! Courtwarming is a fun-filled week, celebrating our winter activities, the supporters of these programs, and it is a time to celebrate our school traditions and showcase our Eagle Pride! From spirit days throughout the week and our second annual Tip-Off Trivia Night, to the return of our Super Eagle Competition during Eagle Hour to the basketball games Friday night, there is something fun for everyone to enjoy! Driver's Education Registration Now Open 
Does your son or daughter want to learn to drive this summer? Do you want professionals to assist in the training?  LPS has the best program and value around! 
Your son or daughter will drive with one of five driving instructors.
The course begins with an all-day instruction class on May 30 or 31, then driving during the month of June.   The cost is $330 if paid before May 1, 2017.  Sign up soon to reserve your spot. To register for the program, click here. To register for the program click here .

Preparing for Kindergarten Event Coming March 2 
Liberty Parents as Teachers is helping families make a smooth transition to Kindergarten!  Join us for this upcoming event, "Preparing for Kindergarten", on Thursday evening, March 2, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Early Childhood Center (located at 9600 NE 79th Street, Kansas City, MO 64158.

Parents as Teachers hosts with annual event to help parents know more about Kindergarten.  A panel made up of district personnel (Kindergarten teachers, counselor, principal, nurse) will talk about Kindergarten.  This is a great opportunity to get any questions you might have answered, find out more about the Kindergarten experience, and how to help your child make the transition.  It is also helpful for those parents who haven't decided whether or not their child will go to Kindergarten next year (because of late spring or summer birthdays). 

This is for parents only please.  No reservation is required.  Childcare is not provided.

Reminder:  Kindergarten Roundup is March 28 at the elementary school the student will attend in the Fall.
Future Now:  Finance Opportunities Available 
For the second year, all Liberty Public Schools juniors will participate in Future Now: Finance (formerly Reality U) through the support of community sponsors and volunteers.
Future Now: Finance is a financial literacy simulation program for high school students provided by Communities In Schools of Mid-America. It provides students a real life experience in handling their finances as a 26 year old. It's a fun, tangible way to experience the reality of making financial decisions about life's necessities. They learn what it costs to maintain a household, family, and children, why it's important to do well in school, choose a career, and plan wisely.

LHS Community Blood Drive Scheduled for Friday, February 17
The Community Blood Center is the primary supplier of blood for local hospitals and has been serving Missouri and Kansas hospitals for over 50 years. The Center needs to collect 580 pints of blood every day and over 140,000 pints annually to meet the needs of our local hospitals.  Someone in the area that the Community Blood Center serves needs a blood transfusion every 4 minutes.

You have the opportunity to do your part for local hospital patients at the next Community Blood Center drive held at Liberty High School in the Gymnasium, 200 Blue Jay Drive, Liberty, on Friday, February 17, from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Adult donors may come at any time or they may make an appointment online by clicking here and using the sponsor code libertyhs. LPS Women in STEM Mom/Daughter Breakfast Information
This event is for middle school girls and an accompanying female parent or guardian. Participants will have the opportunity to informally meet with women that work in STEM-based careers like engineering or computer programming. Our hope is that young girls leave understanding that there are TONS of really awesome jobs out in the real world, and that you don't have to change who you are in order to find a career that you'll love!
The breakfast will take place on the morning of March 4, 2017, from 9 -10 a.m. in the Liberty North High School Library.  You need to be registered to attend, and can do so by clicking here.

In an effort to make our Liberty Public Schools e-newsletter, QuickNews (QN), a concise publication, which subscribers may read in a timely fashion, district/community announcements will be advertised in the main QuickNews section for a maximum of two weeks.  After this period of time, announcements will be transferred to our QuickNews Bulletin Board, which is located on the LPS website provided at the link below. In addition, the Bulletin Board may include announcements not meeting the criteria to be placed in this publication. The addition of the QN Bulletin Board allows them to now be publicized. This bulletin board will continuously be updated throughout the week, and announcements will remain until they expire by date.
