Important LPS Dates at a Glance
Friday, April 14 - Easter Break (No School)
Monday, April 17 - Board of Education Meeting (7 p.m./District Administration Center)
Tuesday, May 23 - Last Day of School (3-Hour Early Release)
(*The last day of school date has been adjusted to May 23, following 2 snow days from earlier this winter. If LPS misses any more days due to inclement weather, those days will be added to the end of the school year).
Board of Education Election Information 
The annual Board of Education election is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 4, 2017. As shared earlier this semester, candidates who have filed for the three, three-year term seats on the Liberty Public Schools Board of Education are:  Mr. Nick Bartlow, Ms. Angie Reed, Ms. Kim-Marie Graham, and Mr. A.J. Byrd. In addition, there is one, one-year seat available. Filing for this position was Mr. Kent Peterson.

Dr. Greg Mees Named New Principal at Discovery Middle School  
At the Monday, March 27, Board of Education meeting, the Board appointed Dr. Greg Mees to be the next principal of Discovery Middle School, effective July 1, 2017.
 
Dr. Mees is currently an assistant principal at Liberty High School, a role he has held since joining Liberty Public Schools in 2008. He will fulfill his duties as assistant principal at LHS through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year before assuming his new role. 
 
"We are excited and confident Dr. Mees will build on all of the great things happening at DMS," said LPS Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Tucker. "Dr. Mees has a tremendous skillset and track record of successfully serving secondary students and families."
 
Born and raised in Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Mees attended Indiana University - Bloomington, where he earned a Bachelor's of Arts in History. He returned to Columbia in 2001 to be a social studies teacher at Columbia Hickman High School, his alma mater. While in Columbia, he earned a Master's degree in Secondary Administration from William Woods University. In addition, Dr. Mees obtained his Educational Specialist and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri - Columbia. 
 
Dr. Mees will replace Dr. Julie Moore, who was named the new Executive Director of Secondary Education earlier this semester.

Please note that the deadline for acquiring transportation for your child - Wednesday, April 5 - is quickly approaching.

LPS Recognizes Teacher of the Year Nominees
LPS had the pleasure of recognizing our 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year nominees at the annual Teacher of the Year Recognition Luncheon on March 28. PAT Wild World of Sports Dad Event
Dads (or the special man in your child's life) and Little Super Stars! Come join us for a Saturday morning of sports! There will be events such as golf, mountain climbing, basketball, running, balls to throw, bowling, fishing, obstacle course, and so much more!

Free Electronic Recycling
Take advantage of this upcoming electronics recycling opportunity! Dispose of your used and broken electronics by taking them to the Liberty High School parking lot on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m.-noon for free recycling. If it has a cord or runs on batteries, they'll take it! There will be a small fee for CRT televisions, depending on size. 2017-2018 Kindergarten Enrollment Open 
Attention parents of children who will enter Liberty Public Schools as 2017-2018 kindergartners! The kindergarten enrollment window is now open. Children must be 5-years-old by August 1, 2017, and must reside within LPS boundaries. For more information regarding kindergarten enrollment, click here.

Complimentary Tickets to Concert
The Liberty Symphony Orchestra will present In Concert with Community on Saturday, April 1, 7:30 p.m., at the Liberty Performing Arts Theatre, 1600 S. Withers Road, Liberty. The concert will feature the winners of the Young Artist and Collegiate Artist Competitions, including Levi Anderson (Liberty North High School), the winner of the Liberty Symphony's Young Artist Competition. The Liberty Community Chorus will also be featured during this concert. 

Thanks to a generous donor, the Liberty Symphony Orchestra is able to offer complimentary tickets for LPS Fine Arts students and their families. To request tickets, please email cory@libertysymphony.org and indicate the numberof tickets needed.
Swope Park Rangers hosting LPS Night
The Swope Park Rangers, a United Soccer League affiliate of Sporting KC, will be hosting LPS Night on Saturday, April 15. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Pre-game activities include a tailgate meal deal, autograph session with Futbol Club Kansas City player Shea Groom, and an Easter egg hunt. A chicken toss and penalty kicks shootout between the Liberty and Liberty North mascots is planned for halftime, and Rangers players will be signing autographs after the game! 5th Annual Relay for Life Kansas City Royals Fundraiser
Join us as our Kansas City Royals take on the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, April 30. Cost is $30 per person for the reserved fountain area. Summer Internship Opportunities for High School Students
Young Entrepreneurs Program, Kansas City (YEP KC) is a hands-on internship program for high school students that focuses on entrepreneurial thinking and development through practical experience. YEP KC partners with local, high-growth companies to offer students opportunities to learn from professionals in a variety of fields, including engineering, marketing, product management, sales, finance, and analytics. In an effort to make our Liberty Public Schools e-newsletter, QuickNews (QN), a concise publication, which subscribers may read in a timely fashion, district/community announcements will be advertised in the main QuickNews section for a maximum of two weeks.  After this period of time, announcements will be transferred to our QuickNews Bulletin Board, which is located on the LPS website provided at the link below. In addition, the Bulletin Board may include announcements not meeting the criteria to be placed in this publication. The addition of the QN Bulletin Board allows them to now be publicized. This bulletin board will continuously be updated throughout the week, and announcements will remain until they expire by date.
