Here we elaborate on the forest sparing-sharing discourse by focusing on forest spared from logging's direct impacts in landscapes allocated for timber production. By direct impacts, we mean logging-induced changes in vegetation and soils such as forest clearing and soil scarification for road building, soil compaction on skid trails, and canopy opening in felling gaps.
