Celebrating UN-REDD and REDD+ Achievements in Argentina

On July 4, 2019, the UN-REDD Programme in Argentina held its closure event in the framework of the Climate Action Week of Argentina. The event presented the advances of the country in the preparation and strengthening of pillars toward the reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, the conservation and the increase of the carbon stock in the forests and their sustainable management (REDD+). The event also offered a space for dialogue on forestry climate politics, next steps in the implementation of the REDD+ process in the country, and overall reflection on climate finance.

Celebrando los logros de ONU-REDD y REDD+ en Argentina

El 4 de julio de 2019, el Programa ONU-REDD en Argentina celebró su evento de cierre en el marco de la Semana de Acción Climática de Argentina. El evento presentó los principales avances del país en la preparación y fortalecimiento de los pilares para la reducción de emisiones por deforestación y degradación forestal, la conservación y el aumento de las reservas de carbono en los bosques y su manejo sostenible (REDD+). El evento también ofreció un espacio para el diálogo sobre política climática forestal, los próximos pasos en la implementación del proceso REDD+ en el país, y una reflexión general sobre el financiamiento climático.

REDD+ Safeguards Information Systems: what Latin American countries are doing to put their system into operation


In this article the UN-REDD Programme Safeguards Team is gathering the experiences of several countries in Latin America, to learn lessons and document key strengths and challenges identified by the countries toward the operationalization of their Safeguards Information Systems (SIS).

Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week

The Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week will take place in Brazil, in the city of Salvador, from 19 to 23 August and will be the occasion for various regional and global actors to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to climate change in the region. The results of the Climate Week will be presented to the Climate Action Summit, organized by the UN Secretary General and to be held in New York on September 23, with the aim of increasing levels of ambition and accelerating the implementation of the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

The UN-REDD regional team for LAC will be present at the event participating in the dialogue on NDCs in Latin America, where they will discuss how to help countries strengthen their NDCs, considering the possibilities of greater coverage, ambition, and taking advantage of the lessons learned in the progress made to date. In addition, UN-REDD will also be leading a session on the progress and challenges of REDD+ payments in the thematic block on nature-based solutions.

Semana del Clima de América Latina y el Caribe

La Semana del Clima de América Latina y el Caribe se llevará a cabo en Brasil, en la ciudad de Salvador, del día 19 al 23 de agosto y será la ocasión para que diversos actores regionales y mundiales traten de los desafíos y oportunidades relacionadas con el cambio climático en la región. Los resultados de la Semana del Clima serán presentados ante la Cumbre de Acción Climática, organizada por el Secretario General de la ONU que será realizada en Nueva York el 23 de septiembre, con el objetivo incrementar los niveles de ambición y acelerar la implementación del Acuerdo de París y la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible.

El equipo regional para LAC de ONU-REDD estará presente en el evento participando del dialogo sobre NDCs en América Latina, donde se discutirá como ayudar a los países a reforzar sus NDCs, considerando las posibilidades de mayor cobertura, ambición, y aprovechando las lecciones aprendidas en los avances realizados hasta la fecha. Además, ONU-REDD también estará liderando una sesión sobre los avances y desafíos de los pagos por resultados REDD+ en el bloque temático de soluciones basadas en la naturaleza.

Info Brief Latin America South-South Exchange: Sustainable Livestock and its relationship with Forests

The UN-REDD Programme, with the support of the Government of Paraguay, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), organized the South-South Exchange "Sustainable livestock and its relationship with forests" from 6 to 7 November 2018 in Asunción, Paraguay. The workshop sought to create a space for exchange and dialogue among producers, government institutions, aid agencies, industry, civil society organizations, financial institutions and traders. The objective was to contribute to the analysis of livestock activity, with a focus on the meat chain and its link with international climate change goals, commitments and agreements. This info brief gives an overview of the discussions.

Info Brief América Latina Intercambio Sur-Sur: La ganadería sostenible y su relación con los bosques

El Programa ONU-REDD, con el apoyo del Gobierno de Paraguay, representado por el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible (MADES) y el Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), organizó el Intercambio Sur-Sur "Ganadería sostenible y su relación con los bosques" los días 6 y 7 de noviembre 2018 en Asunción, Paraguay. El taller buscó crear un espacio de intercambio y diálogo entre productores, instituciones gubernamentales, agencias de ayuda, industria, organizaciones de la sociedad civil, instituciones financieras y comerciantes. El objetivo era contribuir al análisis de la actividad ganadera, con un enfoque en la cadena cárnica y su relación con los objetivos, compromisos y acuerdos internacionales sobre cambio climático.
