What were you doing in 1990? You weren't texting on your smartphone. You weren't "googling" famous people on the internet. You weren't even keeping up with the Kardashians. But what you may have been doing was eating at a new deli called
Il Pizzico on MD 355.
What Chef and Owners Enzo and Sandra Livia were doing in 1990 was starting a business that would expand into a restaurant in 1991 and expand to a larger size in 1994--all at the same location at 15209 Frederick Road.
The Livias are still there and this month are celebrating being and doing business in Rockville for a quarter of a century.
Originally from Sicily, Enzo moved to Rockville to go to college and fell in love with the area. Why a business in Rockville? Livia credits the location, the familiarity of the area and the people he serves.
While so many restaurants come and go, it is a testament to the quality of the service and food at Il Pizzico that has kept it here and growing. Livia says they use as much local produce and products as possible to keep the menu seasonal and interesting.
To celebrate the huge feat of 25 Years here, Il Pizzico will be featuring an
historical menu of popular items of years past.
Even more exciting is the drawing for
2 Trips to Italy on Saturday, June 6. All one need to do is purchase a ticket at the restaurant this week, and on Saturday evening between 9 - 10 pm, one of Il Pizzico's employees, who's ALSO been there for 25 years, will draw the winning tickets.
In keeping with the Livia's loyalty and fondness for the area, all proceeds from the Italy Trip raffle will go the Montgomery County Literacy Council with all proceeds from this week's "historical menu" items going to Manna Foods.
We here at REDI want to congratulate Il Pizzico for 25 years of great food and service to our community and wish them many more years in the future!
