'An unforgettable experience, not just a festival'
Friday 3 June - Sunday 5 June 2016
State Library of Queensland (tbc)
Dr Jonathon Welch AM and the
School of Hard Knocks
are proud and excited to present the first
Brisbane International Singers Festival.
Australia's most exciting singers' festival for choirs, individual singers, conductors and composers, the Melbourne International Singers Festival (MISF), celebrated its 6th year in 2015. This year, to add to the success of that festival, Dr Jonathon Welch AM and the School of Hard Knocks are very excited to bring the festival to Brisbane for the very first time.
The Brisbane International Singers Festival (BISF) will be modelled on its Melbourne counterpart and we are delighted that Kirby Shaw is joining us at both festivals in 2016. After delighting singers at the Melbourne Festival in 2015, int
ernationally renowned composer, arranger and jazz singer Kirby Shaw (from the USA), is back by popular demand with his extraordinary workshops and concerts to prepare and conduct his own arrangements in "Puttin' On the Ritz". With over 2500 choral arrangements / compositions in print, Kirby's music is sung around the world and has sold nearly 20 million copies. His most recent commission was with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
As part of the festival, we invite singers to join our un-auditioned massed choir, the Absolutely Everybody Festival Choir, with lead-up rehearsals on Sundays during May, with
exceptional conductors, including Dr Jonathon Welch AM and Dr Kathleen McGuire.
Singers will enjoy singing fabulous Kirby Shaw arrangements in "Puttin' On the Ritz" and perform two of the School of Hard Knocks amazing new original works - Street Requiem
in memory of those who have died innocent on our streets and
No Excuses!
(for women only)
singing out against domestic violence.
During the festival Queensland Choirs also have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with Dr Kirby Shaw in a one hour MASTERCLASS. Limited spaces are available, so we encourage registration as soon as possible for this fantastic opportunity.
Proceeds from the Brisbane International Singers Festival will support the School of Hard Knocks and its provision of arts and cultural programs to the disadvantaged.
Come and be a part of it. We promise an outstanding weekend and know Queensland singers will enjoy the bonus rehearsals in the lead up to the Festival.
Of course, if one weekend of singing is just not enough - why not head to Melbourne the following weekend for the Melbourne International Singers Festival. (MISF)
