This is YOUR concert! SOLI's 20th Anniversary celebration begins with a program filled with YOUR favorites! (and what a program it is!!)!
Arguably the 20th Century's most iconic chamber work -- and the inspiration for SOLI's existence -- Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time is the focal point of this program. And the past inspires the future as we pair the Quartet with San Antonio native Robert Xavier Rodr�guez' sultry Musica, por un Tiempo. This 2008 SOLI commission was written as a companion piece to Messiaen's masterpiece and is featured on SOLI's upcoming recording (Look for its release Winter 2014!). And to start the season right, SOLI will give the World Premiere of a short celebratory work entitled SOLI Collage by another audience favorite, Paul Moravec. Don't miss it!

Join us as SOLI explores some of the latest and most innovative works, demonstrating what earned SOLI the 2013 Chamber Music America/ ASCAP's coveted Adventurous Programming Award.
PRESENT shows off works by Libby Larsen, Thomas Ad�s, Michael Daugherty, and Aaron Jay Kernis. Each program this season features at least one World Premiere performance and our PRESENT program is no exception, as we dazzle you with newly commissioned works from Anthony Brandt, and San Antonio's own George Cisneros.

 FUTUREMonday, May 19, 2014 * Gallery Nord Tuesday, May 20, 2014 * Ruth Taylor SOLI launches on a trajectory towards the FUTURE with the music of some of the hottest emerging composers of the coming age. In addition to concerts, SOLI will host open panel discussions and Q & A sessions with these young composers and the public about the future of music, the exciting directions we are headed, and the future esthetics of music as an art form. SOLI is thrilled to introduce San Antonio audiences to these young, highly sought after American talents and their music as they stand on the brink of huge careers: Caroline Shaw -- the youngest composer to receive the Pulitzer Prize, Scott Ordway, San Antonio's own Niccolo Athens and Yvonne Freckmann, and Matthew Aucoin. SOLI will give the World Premiere of a new work by Aucoin based on his current opera-in-progress that will feature SOLI's favorite dynamic mezzo-soprano, Tynan Davis. |
