Railway Interchange Housing Scam

 

Several companies, two of which are calling themselves "Convention Housing Authority" and "National Travel Associates"  have been contacting exhibitors regarding hotel reservations at Railway Interchange 2015. They claim to have a relationship with Railway Interchange and are offering hotel reservation services at several hotels, including ones on our current room block, for a very low rate. These companies are not affiliated with Railway Interchange 2015/ REMSA/ AREMA/ RSI/ RSSI and should not be used to make hotel reservations.  


 

If you have received any communication from either one of these companies either via email or telephone, please delete or hang up immediately and ignore any further requests.

Grass REMSA Grassroots Program

As an added member benefit, REMSA has recently introduced a Grassroots Program. The program seeks to connect REMSA member companies with Members of Congress to highlight the rail MoW industry and its importance to job creation, infrastructure, and economic development. The program will focus on Congressional visits to member facilities and worksites as well as expanding REMSA's industry and government contacts in Washington, D.C.

CSX1CSX Set Third-Quarter Financial Record

With quarterly operating income of more than $1 billion, an operating ratio of 66.8%, and net earnings of $553 million, CSX posted record financial results for the second quarter of 2015. Though revenue declined 6% as pricing gains were more than offset by the impact of lower fuel recovery, a 1% volume decline and a changing business mix, continued low fuel prices and savings from "efficiency initiatives" reduced CSX's expenses by 9%. (Railway Age).

 

RRIFDOT Credit Council Recommends $26.8 Million in RRIF Funding for Two Short-Line Rail Freight Terminal Projects

On June 19th the Department of Transportation's Credit Council recommended approval of two federal loans for freight rail projects from the Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement (RRIF) Program. The formal Credit Council recommendation is one of the major final steps in the process of approving a RRIF loan.

 

Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) will spend $20.9 million this year on construction and improvement projects on the Mexico and Roodhouse subdivisions, with work planned between Clark, Mo., and Roodhouse, Ill., the company announced on July 1st. (Progressive Railroading).

 

MBTA1MBTA Kicks Off $12.7 Million Project to Replace Ageing Third Rail, Switch Heaters

On June 22, 2015, track workers will begin to replace third rail and switch heaters along the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's (MBTA) Orange Line. The work marks the start of a $12.7 million project aimed at replacing those components along vulnerable outdoor sections of the Orange and Red lines, agency officials said in a press release. (Progressive Railroading).

 

UPILUP Performing Track Renewal in Illinois

Union Pacific released details of a $6 million project being performed on the rail line between Hillsboro and South Roxana, Ill. The project, which is part of the $119 million the railroad plans to spend in Illinois this year, began June 24 and is scheduled to be completed the end of July. (RT&S).

 

UPMOUP Slates $15 Million for One Missouri Line

Union Pacific Railroad (UP) is investing nearly $15 million in its rail line between the Missouri/Iowa border and Trenton, Mo., part of an overall $66 million program in that state, the company announced July 13, 2015. The project began July 9 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-August. (Railway Age).

Amsted Rail is making a significant capital investment in its Griffin wheel facilities that will boost wheel capacity more than 10% across its five North American locations, the company announced June 24, 2015. (Railway Age).

AT1Atlantic Track Announces Promotion of William Roan

Atlantic Track promoted William Roan Jr. to vice president. Roan joined the company in 1993, and has contributed to Atlantic Track's growth and development, according to a company press release. Through Roan's efforts, the company's transit group has become an important revenue generator, company officials said. (Progressive Railroading).

Miner Enterprises has promoted 24-year Engineering Department employee Andrew Kries to Director of Engineering. He replaces Bob Pokorski, who is taking on a new position at Trinity Rail. (Railway Age).

Parsons1Parsons and Whitmore announce new hires

Parsons hired David Nichols as vice president and transportation program director. Robert McCreary joined Whitmore as international sales manager. (Progressive Railroading).

ENSCO Rail has received a contract to equip two CN hi-rail vehicles with a track geometry measurement system and a machine vision joint bar inspection system to assess track condition. Mark Keller joined Hanson Professional Services Inc.'s regional office in Chicago. In his new role, he'll design bridges and retaining wall components for rail projects throughout the United States. Amtrak has certified the NxGen Rail Services track inspection car for operation on the back of the national passenger railroad's trains. (Progressive Railroading).

Scott Brace, who has served as president of RailWorks Track Systems, Inc., for the past five years, has retired. (Railway Age).

Rocla1Rocla Acquires Concrete Tie Business from Koppers and Lehigh

Rocla Concrete Tie Inc. announced on July 13, 2015, that it has acquired KSA Limited Partnership from Koppers Inc. and Lehigh Hanson Inc. Rocla officials expect the acquisition to allow the company to expand its customer base and product range.
 

Sound Transit has partnered with Oldcastle Precast and Stacy & Witbeck to engineer and manufacture a 450-foot-long prototype section of precast concrete "floating" rail for the University Link light-rail line. (Progressive Railroading).

 

RR Mergers & Acquisitions, a specialist in the sale of rail service and supplier companies, has announced the sale of the Shoshoni, Wyo.-based Dimec Railcar Repair Operations to Cheyenne, Wyo.-based Wasatch Railroad Contractors. (Railway Age).
