ACL Grant Announcement
In April, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) announced Lifespan Respite grant opportunities . REST supports Lifespan Respite state projects by writing letters of support, offering an evidence-supported respite training program to create a statewide respite workforce, and offering custom data reporting for your grant deliverables. Registration closing on May 8.  Stanislaus Veterans Center, Modesto, will host REST's first Train-the-Trainer course in the state, on May 17-18. Click here  to register. 
A Train-the-Trainer course will take place on May 23-24, in Escanaba , through Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP).    

Congratulations to Trainers in Michigan , who have been busy training over 60 REST Companions this February and March. These individuals will begin to provide respite care to caregivers through the Area Agency on Aging 1B in Southfield, and the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP).
A Train-the-Trainer course will take place on June 13-14 , at Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division, in Las Vegas . Click here  to register.

New York
Seven individuals completed a Train-the-Trainer class on April 18-19 , at Russell Barnard Senior Housing, Plattsburgh , through the New York State Caregiving & Respite Coalition
A Train-the-Trainer course will take place on June 3-4 , at Binghamton University College of Community and Public Affairs , through New York State Caregiving & Respite Coalition .  Click here  to register. 
Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center are enrolling family caregivers in two studies to explore ways to help them manage stress and improve their own health. Participants must be 55 and older, and caring for a family member who has Alzheimer's disease. Click here for information about the study, and how Lifespan of Greater Rochester and the Alzheimer's Association work together on respite programs for family caregivers.
A Hornell Evening Tribune article featured Faith in Action's drop-off respite program for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. REST Companions volunteer for the program, which takes place on the third Thursday of the month at First Baptist Church of Hornell.  Read the article here .
REST staff will provide a pre-conference intensive -- a comprehensive training/discussion on a specific topic -- during the 2017 Minnesota Age & Disabilities Odyssey Conference, on June 21-22, at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
Ten REST Companions were trained in the 4-hour REST Essentials course on March 31 . The course was offered through the Wellspring Faith in Action Program in St. James.
Thirteen individuals completed a Companion course on April 18 , at Lake County Community Development Center , Ronan, through Sanders County Council on Aging .

Six individuals completed a Companion course on April 26 , at Salina Family Healthcare Center , through North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Agency/Aging and Disability Resource Centers. The training was held for both staff and community members. Some of the community members were from a church group in Salina, which provides respite for church members. Others were people in a caregiver role with family members, who were interested in the program.

The 9th annual Caregiver Conference takes place on June 5 , at Glenwood Springs Community Center, through Alpine Area on Aging. Learn more here .

The 8th Annual Upper Cumberland Vulnerable Adult Summit will take place on May 10 , at Trinity Assembly, Algood. Featured topics include financial exploitation, hoarding, and end-of-life planning.
