Kodiak Queen

It seems that the 144 foot vessel Kodiak Queen, currently resting at Baughers Bay in Tortola, has more of a story to tell than any of us could have imagined.

While visiting the islands, historian Michael Cochran noticed this aging vessel and decided to delve further in to investigations and discovered something incredible.

The Kodiak Queen was once known as YO-44. She was built in 1941 at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard and is one of, what historians believe to be, the last five remaining ships to have survived the Pearl Harbor Attacks to present day.

YO-44 was a fuel oil barge and remained in service fueling warships during WWII until she was removed from the Navy register in 1960's. She has had several different owners since including Kodiak Queen Fisheries until being purchased and registered to Global Marine LLC, her current owner.

Kodiak Queen has been listed derelict by the BVI Ports Authority and will need to be removed soon. Stanley Hendrington, Global Marine LLC's owner, has said that it will be underway soon and moving to Trinidad for restoration.

 Testing Question
There is a small island located just off Peter Island Resort which was featured in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. This island came to be immortalized in the famous refrain: Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!

What is the name of this island?

The pirates from this island tried their luck, with pockets full of gold, to swim into the nearest bay on Peter Island but did not make it.

What is the name of this bay?

Lagoon 440 2006 - $320,000.00

Lagoon's designers surpassed themselves with the design of the 440 model.

Interior Features

The L shaped galley is professional enough for even the most discerning chef. Excellent stowage, an acre of counter top plus a microwave, blender and two 12v fridges makes catering easy.

The saloon is a great living space. Lots of windows provide plenty of light to the saloon area which can seat the whole crew comfortably. Large opening windows and portholes provide optimal ventilation.

All four double cabins have queen size bunks and are spacious with ensuite heads.

The generator can provide air conditioning throughout the boat or open the hatches to enjoy the tropical breeze.

Exterior Features

The helm on the flybridge provides perfect 360 degree visibility with all the controls within easy reach. There is plenty of room up there for crew members so the Captain does not have to be apart from the fun!

A rigid bimini protects the roomy aft cockpit from the hot sun.  There's fantastic access to the swim platform.

Lounge on the trampoline or use the forward seating area on the bow for sundowners.

The Lagoon 440 has a fully battened main sail with lazy jacks to guide it into the stack pack and also a roller furling genoa.

Bring along an auxiliary lead to hook up your iPod to the CD player.

An electric windlass makes anchoring a breeze.
