Session Categories

  • Paper Sessions.
    • These sessions are intended for reporting research results or analyzing issues of policy and practice related to educational finance. The proposal summary should include a statement of purpose, theoretical framework, findings, and conclusions. For research reports, also describe data sources and methods. Presenters are expected to provide electronic copies of papers.
  • Symposia.
    • A symposium should examine specific issues; best practice, research problems, or topics related to educational finance from several perspectives and allow for dialogue and discussion. The proposal summary should include an overview, summaries of several papers or individual presenter's topic of discussion, and suggestions for audience participation. The submission for a symposium should list the organizer as the senior author and should include the title and each presenter in the symposium as "Co-authors." If the organizer presents, he/she should be listed among the co-authors in addition to the listing as organizer. Session organizers are expected to chair the session and facilitate discussion.
  • Roundtable Sessions.
    • These sessions are intended to stimulate informal, lively discussions about educational finance research projects, doctoral dissertations, innovative instructional or administrative techniques, new types of instrumentation, or using a series of provocative questions or vignettes. The Roundtable format allows maximum interaction with the presenters by eliminating the formal presentation format. Individual presenters are assigned to numbered tables in a large meeting room where interested persons may gather for discussion with the presenter. No other supplies or presentation equipment will be offered at the roundtable sessions. It is at the presenter's discretion to determine presentation format and any other presentation equipment needed. The proposal summary should include an overview of the presentation; the concept/ideas to be discussed; context as discussed in the literature; structure of participant interaction; outline of questions to be addressed; and implication for the profession.
