HURRICANE MATTHEW UPDATE:
As the world was tuned-in to ongoing news coverage regarding Hurricane Matthew, our RHA friends along the east coast were busy preparing for the worst, and riding out the storm. Although we are happy to report that our Florida members sustained no damage, several member properties, in Georgia and South Carolina, were not as fortunate. These members experienced wind and wind-driven rain, causing water damage, damage to landscaping, and business income losses. There have been no reported injuries.
RHA thanks all members who have expressed concern for your fellow members, and we ask that you continue to keep them in your thoughts as they deal with the challenges left behind by the storm.

Laundry Fires
Did you know the average laundry-related fire costs RHA members and insurers $882,000?
Did you know the most recent laundry fire occurred July 2016, and involved "clean" spa laundry that was left in a dryer overnight?
RHA continues to collaborate with members to develop and implement the industry's best practices with regard to laundry-related fire prevention. In addition to RHA's resources, members have shared the following TIPs for preventing laundry-related fires:
- Outsource laundering services, particularly kitchen rags and/or spa linens
- Install dryers that have built-in fire suppression system
- Install automatic sprinklers in laundry areas
- Store soiled kitchen rags in lidded, non-combustible containers
- Store soiled spa linens in non-combustible carts (avoid polypropylene and polyethylene)
- Designate a specific color for kitchen rags, so they can be easily identified by laundry personnel
- Post rules in facilities used for employee laundering
