Huskies Help Houston Hurricane Harvey Hundreds

I was going to write a little this week about the three Specialized Diplomas we are about to launch in the upper school: part of Our Vision-The Next Ten Years' emphasis on increased academic rigor. But you'll have to click below for that information.

I was going to remind you all about this coming Wednesday evening's Back to School Night, when you will be able to meet all your sons' and daughters' teachers and get a quick snapshot view into what goes on in each class, but, well, I guess I just did that.

I was going to remind you that the RHP After School Program is now up and running on Mondays and Wednesdays (you can find the sign-up information by clicking below), or that next week is Academic Integrity week when we teach and remind students about the dangers of plagiarism and similar short cuts.

Then I walked into the MPR and saw the amazing effort to support Houston's families that is being coordinated by our students and parents. One truck of clothes and supplies . . . full? Two trucks . . . full! We need more trucks! Three . . . four . . . five trucks of relief supplies filled and now wending their way east.

Thank you for all your support. If you want to help in another way, we are taking cash donations to directly support the drive for Teddy Bears and soft toys. One of our extended Husky family members will buy these toys in Dallas and transport them to the children. Our school's landscaper, Bob Gaudenti of GS Brothers has kicked off the drive with a check for $1,000. Thanks Bob! If you wish to support this effort, you may donate by clicking below, or send a check made out to RHP to Jill Notch in the Development Office and 100% of your gift will be sent on to Texas and the East Coast to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma as well.

In order to donate, you must either log in to My Backpack or use a Guest account at the page linked below. Once you reach the donation form, make sure to select "Other/Misc. Fundraising" in the "Fund" section and indicate that you are donating to the Teddy Bear Drive in the "Additional Info" section.

See you next Wednesday night at 6:30 PM for Back To School Night.

Senior Speeches: Amber Owens '18

"I don't know why hard things happen, but I do know that when they do it's easy to feel helpless and feel bad for yourself. I realize that everyone is going through their own struggles and there is always someone in more need of help than yourself, it is important to keep that in mind when we think about how we treat people. But, what got me through all this was realizing that pain is only temporary. You might be in the middle of the storm now, and it might be hard to see your way out but something I learned is that no matter what life brings I have the strength and courage to get through it, and so do all of you."

HuskyPalooza

This September 15th, join the Huskies at school for the first annual HuskyPalooza! Play lawn games on the field with friends, or eat some pizza while watching a movie at night. The event is open to all students and families, which starts directly after the football game  that afternoon.

Husky Teacher Treats

Show your appreciation for your favorite teachers, staff, and administration by buying Teacher Treats! Throughout the next two weeks, Middle School Student Council will be selling a variety of treats for $6 apiece.

Treats include: Apples, K-Cups, Chocolate Bars, and Hand Sanitizer. Each treat is accompanied by a tag that communicates your appreciation in a comedic manner.

Items will be sold at breaks and lunches, but can also be purchased in room 41c.

Congrats to our Girls' Varsity Volleyball for sweeping their first league game on Thursday against Wildwood.  The team went 25-17, 25-16 & 25-16.
Great job!

In response to the tragic events of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the RHP & Ren community came together to fill five trucks with donations. We are so proud of our students, families, faculty, and staff!

Our senior robotics class began the year by building a pneumatic robot arm using household materials. They are beginning early preparations for competitions that will come later in the year. Good Luck!
