Catch the Senior Volunteer Bus
Join RSVP as we unveil our new bus ad in honor of National Volunteer Week. The RSVP ad will be on Fairfax Connector buses across Fairfax County. Be sure to check out the RSVP Facebook page on April 18 for our "Catch the Senior Volunteer Bus" promotion! This is a joint project of The Fairfax Connector, The Fairfax County Park Authority and RSVP Northern Virginia.

GMU Assistant Professor to Speak at Lunch and Learn
"The importance of Volunteerism in Retirement” will be the subject of a talk by George Mason University assistant professor Dr. Patrice Winter, PT, DPT, MHA, FAAOMPT, at noon, Friday, April 20, during an RSVP Lunch and Learn at the Providence Community Center in Fairfax, held to celebrate National Volunteer Week.

The free event which also includes a free healthy lunch, is open to all of those who are 55-years-young and better. Click here to sign up!

Dr. Winter, assistant professor in GMU’s Department of Global and Community Health, teaches health related curriculum with an emphasis in public health, healthy living and aging well.

Winter is a practicum coordinator for the Masters of Public Health program, placing students regionally as well as internationally. She is also actively involved in health promotion programs across the university. She practiced physical therapy for over 35 years and was a spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association for almost 20 years.

Dr. Winter sits on the Fairfax County Health and Human Services Council, a group of 20 members appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors tasked with analyzing the needs and effectiveness of the county’s health and human services system.

Dr. Winter’s presentation is made possible by the Mason Speakers Bureau, part of George Mason University’s Office of Community and Local Government Relations in Fairfax.
2018 Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards Breakfast
Volunteer Fairfax hosts the Annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards Breakfast, providing the opportunity to honor volunteers who have given outstanding service to the community. Be a part of recognizing incredible volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make our community a better place! RSVP volunteers are invited to attend the event. This invitation is extended to you as a reward for your work throughout the community!  Sign up to reserve your spot today!  Deadline is April 6.

April Group Service Project
Since we had to cancel the March group service project at River Farm due to the snow storm, we will be rescheduling for April! Come out to the American Horticultural Society's headquarters at River Farm to help with spring garden maintenance. Click here to sign up.

AHS Spring Garden Market
Join the American Horticultural Society for their spring garden market! Volunteers are needed to help with vendor check-in and property set-up, the garden shop, the hospitality/membership tent, parking, plant check and porter, the rental office, and volunteer check-in. Walk to End Sexual Violence
Embrace your voice, be an agent for change! April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Please join OFWDSVS for the 4th Annual Walk to End Sexual Violence. Volunteers are needed to fill several slots and tasks. Please click here for shift details and to sign up . There will be a resource fair, DJ, zumba, raffle and food trucks.

Healthy Strides Community 5K and 10K
Healthy Strides Community 5K and 10K run is looking for volunteers for their annual race at Burke Lake Park! Volunteer opportunities include registration assistance, bag check assistance, hospitality table, refreshments table, course attendant, water stop, and set up. What on Earth are we doing for Earth Day?
Come and celebrate Earth Day at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Volunteers are needed to help lead a trash clean up, a craft activity, a water run-off activity, a bowling game, table games, word searches, and corn hole. 8th Annual Fairfax Run for the Children
Volunteers are needed to aid Fairfax CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) host their largest fundraiser of the year! Their annual 8K and 3K run requires lots of hands on deck including: set up/clean up crews, course marshals, water stations, registration, bag check, and food tent servers. 50+ Employment Expo
Save the date for the 50+ Employment Expo! Recruiters from dozens of employers, including non-profits, government, healthcare, retail, technology and more from all over Fairfax County will be there! Volunteers are needed to help with registration from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Volunteers are also needed as resume advisors from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please contact Carol Wright at 703-324-5410 or carol.wright@fairfaxcounty.gov.

Junior Achievement - Finance Park
Junior Achievement, an organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy, needs more volunteers at Finance Park. The total time commitment is 5 hours, including a 1-hour training the morning of your scheduled volunteer day. You will use your training knowledge to guide students through different phases of the day that simulate real-world budgeting decisions, spending research, and bill payment. As you guide students through the digital simulation, you'll share your own life experiences and help them walk a day in your shoes. RSVP Northern Virginia is proud to present its very own podcast series!  Go to our Youtube website to check them out! Timesheet Submissions

This free event seeks to celebrate the spirit of volunteerism through a recognition ceremony as well as a Volunteer Fair. Nominations for the Volunteer Awards will open March 1 and be received until May 1, 2018. Learn more about the specific awards and nomination process here.
