Hike Leaders: Sue Harmon and Brenda Smith
Hike Location: Rabun Bald
Hike Date: Saturday, March 17, 2018
Outing Description: We would like to make up for a couple of hikes that got cancelled over the last year, so we are combining Rabun Bald and poetry! We will shuttle over to Bee Gum Gap where we will pick up the trail and hike a slow pace up to the top of Rabun Bald, stopping here and there to share a favorite nature poem or passage. The usual stops for naturalist musings and photography are welcome. Once on the Bald we will enjoy the 360-degree views and have lunch. We will naturally move a little more quickly descending the mountain after lunch and will likely take the old road bed down for a different view.
Meeting Time, Place and Directions: Meet at 10:00 am at the Ingles in Clayton. As you face the store, we will be gathering on the right side, near the South State Bank. See a Google map here.
Distance and Difficulty: Hike total is 3 miles. Casual pace for the 1.5 mile climb up to the tower. Faster pace on the downhill return.
Duration: We should be back to our cars by 3:00 pm.
Participant Limit: 20
What to Bring and Wear: Lunch, plenty of water, rain gear, and sturdy footwear. If allergic to bees/wasps, remember to bring your meds/epi-pen. Bring your favorite nature poem or short passage to share with others if you feel so inclined. This is optional.
Cancellation: Hikers will be notified if the outing is canceled due to forecast of severe weather, etc.
Pet Policy: No pets, please
Family Safe Policy: Georgia ForestWatch Outings are a smoke-, alcohol-, and drug-free setting.
