Race Season Begins!
 


Without any major races, I've taken the past few months as an opportunity for change.  I changed up my routine with trips to see family and friends over the November and December holidays.  Between, during, and after those trips, I've simultaneously worked on changing details of my swimming, biking, and running techniques.  Removed from the pressure of competition, it's nice to have a time of year dedicated to making these changes.

That being said, it's about time to transition into competition season.  I'm ready for that change, too.  It's time to see how all of those small adjustments will pay off against the best triathletes in the world.  I love to compete, and I undoubtedly believe this is the best use of my time and energy.  Enjoy the following snippets from my "change" season, and look for more updates as we head to the races.  Thanks for sharing my journey!

Physiological Testing at EMU

 

 

 

"Physiological testing is great, but it takes more than numbers and data to make a champion. Good numbers in the lab guarantee exceptional performance about as well as fresh ingredients ensure a delicious cooked meal."

I'll use the data I collected from my running evaluation at Eastern Michigan University's Running Science Laboratory (my 4th visit in the past 3 years to Dr. McGregor's lab) to be more efficient in my training. I only have so much energy...these tests ensure I'm channeling that energy in the right direction.


 

Bike Fitting

 

I worked with CycloLogic (Scottsdale, AZ) to find a more aerodynamic bike position.  


 

The left screen (above) shows the pressure on my undercarriage. These adjustments (along with a new Cobb saddle) cut that pressure in half! It was like going from this:
