The Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome powered by Lincoln Tech was blessed once again with a great crowd, fantastic field of race cars, and some sizzling weather on Saturday May 12th. Besides automobile racing was the kickoff to our annual bike racing series. It was pedal-power for round one with big wheel action. The top five in the 3 & under contest was Mason Summers, Andrew Proffitt, Emma Tunny, Walker Hargraves, and Novah Greer. The top five in the 4 & 5-year-old race was Izak VanValkenburg, MaKaylyn Hargraves, Carter Harding, Kendall Ciriello, and Ryder Hargraves.
The Stock division made its first 2018 appearance on the oval course with a pretty strong car count. Former champ Larry Hahn was fastest in practice while veterans Kenny McDonough and Aaron Smay took heat race wins. The feature had an early top three of Kenny Rackley Sr, Ricky Schaeffer III, and Kimmie Greig. Hahn worked his way forward from his eighth starting position. A midway restart got Larry to second. He applied the pressure but could not derail Rackley from the victory. Schaeffer was third.
The Last Chance Wrecker Factory Front Wheel Drives began the evening with preliminary heats. Trophies went to Robert Eversole, Tylar Brown, Walt Arthur, and Roger Gwinn. Eversole, who is the divisions all-time winningest driver, was best in the 20-lap “A” feature over Gwinn and rookie Trae Bowman. The 15-lap “B” feature saw sophomore sensation Marc Bisson tops over Michael McKinnon on a very late race pass. Junior Lemasters was third.
