The annual College of Engineering Alumni Tailgate was held at Medlar Field on Saturday, September 9, before the Penn State vs. Pittsburgh game. The event featured games and activities for children hosted by engineering students and a silent auction with great prizes to raise funds for student scholarships.

Radiation Science and Engineering Center receives $1 million DOE grant

Penn State's Radiation Science and Engineering Center (RSEC) has received a grant for $1 million from the U.S. Department of Energy's University Infrastructure Grants program. Supplemented with an additional $600,000 in RSEC funds and equipment donations, the award will be used to update the control console and modernize the safety system at the Penn State Breazeale Reactor (PSBR). >>
NSF funds research to help predict structure for long-term electric power transmission

Penn State researchers have received funding from the National Science Foundation to develop a system that will assist the power industry in siting new transmission lines to accommodate a broad range of possible future evolutions of the power grid. >>
Two NSF grants to aid Penn State CNEU in developing nanotechnology workforce

With two grants awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Penn State Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization (CNEU) will develop a Nanotechnology Professional Development Partnership (NPDP) to continue providing leading-edge nanotechnology education to post-secondary educators and students to address the growing national need for a skilled nanotechnology workforce. >>
Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering's Thole honored by ABET

Karen Thole, distinguished professor and department head of mechanical and nuclear engineering, has been selected as a recipient of the 2017 ABET Claire L. Felbinger Award for Diversity.
