Message from Mrs. Gabaldon

Dear Raiders,

I am excited to share that two of our WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) sponsors were able to participate in a 3-day training for this program. They are now back at school and raring to go! This program provides leadership opportunities for eighth graders, and mentorship for sixth graders, and will be a great addition to our school.

A gentle reminder for all current eighth grade parents and current fifth grade parents zoned for SPMS: please visit our guidance website for information regarding residency forms that must be turned in before your student can receive a schedule.
Parents of current 6 th grade students: please scroll to the Nurse's Section of the Raider Rap for information on required vaccinations.
Moving over the summer? Please share your plans with Holly Cioffi in guidance ( ).

We wish you all a fabulous weekend!

Introducing 2017-2018 Sunshine State Books

As you are all aware the funding to support the band program is provided by the parents of the students through payment of the fair share and through fundraising efforts. Due to the amount of time required to fundraise, next year's fair share payment will be raised slightly and most of the fundraising events will be stopped. However, we have an exciting new plan to seek funding for the band through business partners; you are all probably aware of how business partners fund other school organizations such as the PTO.

We have developed a plan for business partners to advertise in our newsletters and band programs next year. We are bringing this to you now because we are offering an incentive for each of you to reach out to a business owner you may know and ask them to support the band. Each student who brings in a new business partner will receive a portion of their fair share paid for by the business partner program. The business partner program is a win for businesses because of the hundreds of folks who will see their advertisements on band materials, and a win for parents who can help recruit a new business partner to help sponsor their child in band. We will be providing written materials on the details of the program in the near future. Please be thinking about any business owners you know, that would benefit from being a part of our band family.

Tdap Shots
Thank you to all the 6 th grade parents who responded quickly about their student's Tdap shot for 7 th grade. Those parents received a letter from the school notifying them that we still needed proof of their student's Tdap shot. This prompt response will ensure that your student will receive a schedule for next year and be able to start school on the first day. Please do not delay or wait till the last minute! If you did not receive a letter, we have a copy of your student's Tdap shot in our records.

8th Grade Dance Dress Code
Hello 8th graders. I've had a few people asking about the dress code for the Formal in May.   We relax it.  We just ask that you don't buy a dress that is too tight or too short. You don't have to follow the 4-inch-above-the-knee school rule, but . . . be appropriate with tightness and length.   Also girls, I would suggest that you do not spend a lot of money on heels. Seriously, within 15 minutes to half an hour, almost every girl ends up kicking off her heels... AND, no really spiky heels. That is per the venue where we have our event. Spiky heels can damage their floor!

Boys, you can wear a suit or a nice pair of slacks and shirt. A tie is optional. No jeans or shorts, please!

Be sure to checkout the 8th Grade Edmodo page for the latest information.

Formal - May 19, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Switzerland Community Church's hall.

Raider Buck Raffle - May 23rd, during Raider Hour, in the auditorium.
Awards Ceremony - This is for students receiving special awards.  Date to be announced.
