PARENT TIPS & TOOLS
... because building oral language skills is a predictor of future success!
MAKE THE MOST OF THE CAR RIDE
: Pick a word ending such as "ot" in "hot" and take turns naming rhyming words with that ending.
Name that Song
: Sing a small part of a simple song or nursery rhyme. Challenge your child to name the song or finish the song.
As you approach something visible from the car, say: "I spy with my little eye something (give a hint such as color or shape)." The person with the correct guess gets a turn to "spy" something.
: Each person names as many animals as possible, one person at a time. For extra fun, count the total as each animal is called out. Next, switch to fruits or ice cream flavors...
Mad Libs Out Loud
: Start a made-up story. Take turns adding a line or two. Let the story head in a zany direction!
