CENTER HIGHLIGHTS
We were pleased to welcome Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY), to the Bunche Center on February 27th  to meet with students.  Not only is Rep. Meeks a Howard Law School alum, but he is the champion of our Charles B. Rangel Fellowship Program and we look forward to working with him on a variety of other initiatives as well!
Howard University celebrated International Women's Day and our Sesquicentennial by inviting two distinguished global leaders, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (former Managing Director of the World Bank) and Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA) to discuss the "Internationalization of Black Consciousness and Gender Equity."
Dep. Dir. Tonija Navas stopped by WPFW-FM to talk with  PA' LANTE  about the Bunche Center's international programs and the intersection of Afro-Latinx identities.
The Center's latest installment of the "150 Years of Howard University in the World" lecture series, featured Professor Quito Swann discussing black internationalism and  how HU has contributed to  a larger black consciousness movement around the world.
HU BISON ABROAD
The HU Bison Abroad Program is determined to send 10% or more of the undergraduate student body abroad by 2020!

Why is this our goal, you may ask? Because it is understood that studying abroad is one of the most meaningful opportunities afforded to Howard students of all majors and impacts their personal, academic, and professional growth- forever.

To reflect these values, we have created two hashtags to proclaim that study abroad is definitely for Howard students, despite the national data that reflects African-American students' lack of participation. These hashtags are #HUbisonabroad and #studyabroadsoblack and I invite you, to be a part of this movement! -- MaRaina Montgomery, Study Abroad Manager, HU '06

BUNCHE CENTER SHOUTOUT
We would like to extend a very special THANK YOU to our partners, CET Academic Programs, IES Abroad, CIEE, and AIFS for each sponsoring a table at our 150th  Charter Day Gala in support of Howard University’s Bridging the Gap Scholarship Fund. Howard University supports study abroad by allowing students to use their full financial aid package towards the costs of studying abroad, not common among higher education institutions. We are grateful to have partners dedicated to providing meaningful global experiences for our students! THANK YOU!

Fellows from the 2016 cohort are finalizing their overseas internships, and our 2015 class is in their final stretch of their graduate programs preparing to graduate in May! Selections are underway for the Rangel Summer Enrichment Program, and the new cohort of Rangel Summer Scholars will be announced in late March.

Donald M. Payne
Fellowship Program
The application period for the 2017 Payne Fellowship closed on January 20, 2017, and the applicant pool was outstanding and reflected the Payne Program goal of diversity and excellence. We received a total of 278 online applications for the 2017 Payne Fellowship. This is a 20% increase from last year. A strong majority are members of the minority groups historically under-represented in the U.S Agency for International Development. The Selection panel will select 24 finalists and out of those finalists, 10 will be awarded the fellowships.
