A Wonderful Holy Week!

What a wonderful Holy Week we have just experienced, and it is good to reflect on that before we look ahead! We have truly sensed God's presence  as we worshiped him in spirit and in truth. Our Sanctuary Choir started us off beautifully with their presentation of Amazing Love! on Palm Sunday. Those who attended the Good Friday service affirmed that our recounting of Jesus' life during Holy Week, particularly emphasizing the Passover of Maundy Thursday and the sacrificial death of Jesus on Good Friday, was a somber, moving experience that better prepared us for the celebration of Resurrection Sunday! While the worship itself--recounting all that God has done for us in Jesus--is paramount, I will say that I was greatly encouraged by the attendance at our first Good Friday service together, and I am told that we had close to 230 on Resurrection Sunday morning. Let's not allow the excitement and thanksgiving toward God to wane now that Holy Week is over; let's allow it to motivate us to "press on toward the goal" of our heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.

Blessed Are the Meek?

Let's be honest: when we are thinking about character qualities we would like to see growing in our lives, meekness rarely makes it toward the top of our list. But Jesus makes an incredible promise to the meek: "they shall inherit the earth." Let's see what Jesus means as we resume our first series of messages from the Sermon on the Mount: The "Be" Attitudes. Previously, we have looked at how being poor in spirt brings the blessing of God and why sad people can be happy. I hope to see you at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday as we worship together.

Also Sunday, we will hear an update on the ministry of a group most of us know about: the Gideons. They are perhaps the best known ministry whose primary mission is the distribution of Scripture to people in various walks of life. You may want to give a gift to them in memory of or in honor of someone.

Directory Update

As I shared with you last week, we will be printing and distributing our church directories beginning this coming week. Each family of a member or a regular attender will receive a hard copy, and we will give one to new members as well, but remember that t he directory will also be available online where ONLY other church members and regular attenders can access it. This way, you can log in and get the most current directory at any time in the future. You can also edit your own profile and even decide whether you will allow your name to be in the directory going into the future.

CLICK HERE to get more information about how to access the online directory through ChurchTrac Online. If you have problems, check with Mark Hall.

Aren't you glad to be a part of what God is doing at Ancient City Baptist Church? Cindy and I are excited to be here living and worshiping our Lord alongside you! We hope to see you Sunday!
