YOUTH JUSTICE FORUM

Last week, four of our young women had a unique opportunity and one which they hope they will share with us over their time at Ramona. Ellen Urtecho, Brittany Pena, Valerie Murguia, and Katie Gonzalez traveled with Sister Anna and Ms. Averill for the SNJM Youth Justice Forum.  They spent a week with host students at Holy Names Academy in Seattle as well as students from all other SNJM schools in Portland, Oakland, Albany, Tampa, Winnipeg, Montreal, and Lesotho, Africa.  They enjoyed their time despite sleeping on a gym floor for a week!  The girls had an amazing experience learning about the SNJM justice focus on water, human trafficking, and immigration.  Additionally, they had the opportunity to do service at Volunteer Park cleaning up plant debris, Cathedral Kitchen serving and eating with the homeless of Seattle, and Mary's Place spending time with women and children caught in the cycle of poverty.  There was time for some reflection as well as fun.  Every day began and ended with prayer as well as reflection and sharing of their experiences and insights.  Finally, a trip to Seattle is incomplete without a visit to the famous Pike Place Market!  Sunday afternoon was spent savoring the many culinary, cultural, and artistic delights of the market.  It is hard to condense a week of experiences in one paragraph; however, a highlight had to be not only meeting students from SNJM schools on the east and west coasts of the United States, but also from our sister schools in Canada AND from Lesotho in Africa.   This is particularly meaningful because each year the girls at Ramona raise money during Lent to help further the work of the Sisters of the Holy Names in Lesotho - in schools, caring for orphans, and a variety of other ministries. Reflecting the Sisters value of interdependence, this trip was funded by contributions from the schools, as well as by the Sisters of the Holy Names Ministry Fund.  Thank you, parents, for entrusting your daughters to us for the week!  Click here to see more photos.

PARENT PLEDGES

Within the next few days, returning parents will receive your first billing for your parent pledge.  If payment is made before registration, you can speed through one step of the registration process.  If you have a question about your pledge, please contact Michelle Torres (mtorres@ramonaconvent.org or ext. 113) or Kimberly Hoffman (khoffman@ramonaconvent.org or ext. 130) in the Development Office.  New parents, if you have not yet made your pledge, you will be receiving a reminder very soon.  The form was in your initial acceptance packet and was also discussed at the Enrollment Nights.

SUMMER SCHOOL

Thank you to Ms. Dumas, our summer school principal, and to all of the teachers who taught summer school classes for our students, as well as visitors from other campuses. Hopefully all of the students will come away feeling that they are better prepared for the next steps of their educational journey.  We are especially grateful to both teachers and students for their participation because we know that this is a short summer due to the change in calendar.  We will welcome everyone back very soon!

FRESHMAN RETREAT UPDATES

Due to a schedule conflict, the time for the Frosh Retreat has changed to 1:00 P.M.  Please disregard and throw away the information AND Permission Form sent to you last week.  New letters and forms with the correct information will be sent out this week.  Please sign the Permission Form and bring it with you to Registration to drop off at the Campus Ministry table in the Holy Family Room.  We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
