Eagle County Home to Unique Flower
Trust Our Land article by Jessica Foulis
For many, summertime in Colorado evokes images of vibrant vegetation and beautiful flowering plants carpeting our landscapes. One of the most rare and fascinating of these plants is harrington's penstemon, or Penstemon harringtonii.

Have you ever spotted one? The public is invited to join Eagle Valley Land Trust for a free, guided hike on Saturday, June 11, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to explore the 478-acre West Avon Preserve conservation easement in search of harrington's penstemon.

Welcome new board member Anna-Maria Ray!
EVLT extends a very warm welcome to our newest board member, Anna-Maria Ray, who  came to the Vail Valley in 1974 with her family who maintained a second residence in Vail from 1974-1990. In 1990 her parents retired to the Valley as she continued her education at the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law. In 1994 she returned to the Valley and began work in the tourism and hospitality industry. She went on to marketing and PR and opened her own consulting business in 2009.
Over the last 40 years she has continually been involved in fundraising and philanthropic work throughout the US and Mexico. In the last decade she has served on many local Vail Valley boards and assisted in fundraising for most of them.

Anna-Maria enjoys community involvement and believes that giving back to the community is one of the most important things that individuals can do. She loves the outdoors, and is an equestrian, avid skier and loves hiking and gardening.  She feels that the peer action of a community is one of the most important things that a resident can do, not only in maintaining the internal structure and values of the community but it's natural environment as well. Without the nature and beauty that surrounds us we wouldn't be the community we are and its preservation is key to our overall success and happiness in living here!

Read more about our vanishing land in this fascinating article by clicking here.

This study is getting a lot of press. In 2011, human development covered 11.2% of the land in the county (120,633 acres). Between 2001 and 2011, the county lost 5,578 acres of natural areas to development. Do you agree with the findings of the study? Let us know what you think.
