Bishop Kearney is pleased to announce that former New York City Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly will deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2015 at Brooklyn College on June 6th at 10:00am.
With fifty years in public service and the last twelve as police commissioner of the City of New York, Raymond W. Kelly is one of the world's most well-known and highly esteemed leaders in law enforcement.
A forty-three-year veteran of the NYPD, Mr. Kelly served in twenty-five different commands. He was appointed Police Commissioner of New York City first in 1992 by Mayor David N. Dinkins and again in 2002 by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Mr.
Kelly was the first person to hold the position for two non-consecutive terms. Under his
leadership
, the police department created a formidable task force to address the threat of terrorism and succeeded in reducing crime rates in New York City to historic lows.
Mr. Kelly was formerly Senior Managing Director of Global Corporate Security at Bear, Sterns & Co. Inc. Before that, he served as Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Services for which he was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Medal for Exceptional Services. In addition, Mr. Kelly served on the Executive Committee and was elected vice president for the Americas for Interpol. He bravely served his country in the Marine Corps Reserves and retired after 30 years of service.
A lifelong New Yorker, Mr. Kelly graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1959. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Manhattan College, a Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law, a Master of Laws from New York University Graduate School of Law and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
