From the Pastor...

Imagine you're writing a screenplay for a blockbuster Hollywood movie. At the heart of the story is the greatest good news imaginable: that a man has come back from the dead, offering the promise of eternal life. Your film's budget is unlimited. You have access to the best CGI special-effects artists Hollywood can provide.

Starting from a blank slate, how would you craft your story? Where and when, in history, would you have the resurrected man show up, for maximum visibility all over the world? What sorts of special effects would you call for, to make an unforgettable impression on your viewers?

Chances are pretty good you wouldn't take the approach of any of the Gospel-writers who tell the story of Jesus' resurrection. Theirs is a low-budget, low-tech, slapdash approach. They can't even get the details of their story straight, among the four of them.

Their main character, Jesus, is a pretty impressive figure, but he shows up randomly, here and there, with no fanfare - and vanishes just as quickly. The supporting cast is, frankly, a disaster. They're so frightened and confused, they don't inspire much confidence. No one of any importance seems to take notice of the wonder that's just taken place: they're all common folk, none of them the sort of movers and shakers who could get this remarkable story into the news. The only thing that crowd seems good at is going into hiding.

It's not the sort of story a competent screenwriter would consider submitting to a major motion-picture studio.

Which is exactly the point. If it were a story, a work of fiction, it would have come out very differently. It would open in the theaters to great fanfare, everyone would rush to see it, and they'd all come out saying what a good story it was. They might even think about it for a day or two.

But that's not the kind of story the resurrection is. Because it's not a story. It's the gospel. It's a unique and unrepeatable series of events that changed the world, and is changing it still.

One of the greatest privileges of a Christian is to come to worship on Easter Day, symbolically joining those witnesses to the resurrection and sharing their joy and astonishment. I invite you to come to Lamington Church, at either of our two worship services, 9:00 or 11:00 and do just that.

A special treat for the younger children of our community is the traditional Easter Egg Hunt, to take place on the church lawn between services. It will start as soon as the organizers can get everything ready, but no earlier than 10:15 - so, parents, that's the time to get your kids there.

Many of you have made donations for Easter flowers for the Sanctuary. If you'd like to take a plant home with you, please plan to pick it up at 12:00 noon, as the second service is concluding.

Let's make the rafters ring with the joyous acclamation, "The Lord is risen: he is risen indeed!"

Pastor Carl

Lamington Church Welcomes
Guest Trumpeter, Haochen Wang

The Easter Sunday worship services at Lamington Church will be filled with beautiful music played by Jim Goldsworthy, our music director, with solos by John Cloys, our section leader, and Haochen Wang, guest trumpeter. Mr. Wang, from Tianjin, China, just southeast of Beijing, is currently in his first year of graduate study at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, working toward the Master of Music in Choral Conducting degree. At Westminster, he serves as section leader for the basses of the Symphonic Choir and is studying piano in addition to his degree program courses.
The flowers in the Sanctuary are a gift from members and friends of The Lamington Presbyterian Church. They are given to the glory of God and in joyous celebration of the resurrection of our Lord!
