What if I told you that from June 21st to the 23rd, 79 children were rescued from a life of being sex trafficked and 104 alleged pimps were arrested across the United States? Would this shock you? The month long effort was called Operation Cross Country and was organized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Did you know that everyday our children are being sold for sex? I wish I could tell you that this was an isolated incident. I wish I could tell you that all of the children being trafficked were rescued and all of the perpetrators and traffickers were stopped. I wish I could, but sadly this is the tip of an ugly epidemic that goes on in every State in the United States and every country in the world.
Even if you heard this story being reported on June 25, which was when the FBI made the announcement, have you heard anything about it since? Why has the story gone so quickly cold? While in stark contrast, since the announcement of Tom Cruise and Katie Holme's break up, it has been a top story almost everyday. Let me interject here to say my heart goes out to them both. Does the selling of 79 children not hold enough interest to ensure the issue of trafficking stays at the top of our list of things that we want to not just hear about, but also do something to ensure it comes to an end? Let me assure you today, as you read this article, there are children that have to endure this horror right here in Tennessee. According to a study from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation 4,000 children a year in Tennessee alone. Right now it is estimated 100,000 to 300,000 children across the United States are being trafficked each year.
Free for Life, located in Franklin, TN, was recently acknowledged through a Giving of Life grant award for their work both here and around the world in the fight against trafficking. The trauma that young women have endured while victimized has many aspects to it. Rescue is day one of a long road ahead of her. Free for Life focuses on partnerships both here and globally to meet 100% of the needs each girl has once she has been rescued.
The time for action is now. Today can be a new day. The body of Christ must address the issue of trafficking from every angle and get involved.
