Happy New Year!!!
Welcome to the start of an exciting new year! There are many promising opportunities on the horizon to help our MBE's continue to develop relationships with corporate America. This year, SMSDC is adding new, informative sessions to our annual stakeholder's meeting February 28th at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio. Is your business in need of Access to Capitol? Do you have Exporting questions? Are you interested in learning how to effectively do business with supplier diversity professionals? XM Bank, the Department of Commerce and SBA will be in attendance during Stakeholder's to address these questions and help your business stay on the right track for 2017.
Ready to take it a step forward? Be sure to look for more information regarding enhancements being made to our Subscription Service program and how it can help impact your bottom line. What is a Subscription? MBE's no longer need to obtain reciprocal certification to do business with a national member in another state or NMSDC region. SMSDC will provide subscription services to certified MBEs in good standing with their home certifying affiliate. Subscription Services, at an additional cost, is an agreement to receive or be given access to affiliate products or services, such as:
- Access to top corporate purchasing agents
- Premium business connection outings and networking events
- Key Introductions to national corporate members
- Specialized procurement conferences & Trade Fairs
- Supplier Diversity summits and roundtable discussions
- Professional development fellowships
- Mentor-Protégé pairings and other educational or development programs
- And other additional services
We encourage you to continue to get more involved with the SMSDC to leverage your business. Each of our regional offices will be planning & executing local quarterly events in 2017. Contact your local office to join a Regional Task Force near you and become part of the planning for success in your area. Our dedicated Board of Directors, Regional Task Force and staff are ready to assist you reach your business goals. Make SMSDC your platform for better & bigger opportunities!

You are cordially invited to join us for the 2017 Annual Stakeholder's Meeting of the Southwest Minority Supplier Development Council. The Stakeholder's Meeting is your opportunity to network with SMSDC's Board of Directors, Certified MBE's, Corporate Members and Staff.
This year we are bringing speakers from XM Bank, Department of Commerce & SBA to discuss Access to Capitol and any other questions you may have.

The annual meeting will take place at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio, TX from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tips from SMSDC...
5 New Year's Resolutions for Busy Entrepreneurs in 2017
Congratulations! You can now assert that your business has made it through another year, maybe even its first year. But if you want to continue that streak of success, you need to commit to being a better entrepreneur in 2017 than you were in 2016.
Maintaining a constant line of development means always honing your skills, learning new ones and
giving yourself more possibilities -- so why not make some New Year's resolutions for 2017 that will make you a better all-around entrepreneur?
Here are some of my top suggestions:
1. Make time for your physical health first.
You spend so many hours at the office, and there's so much on your plate that you can't even think about taking care of yourself. That needs to stop. No matter how busy your schedule gets or how much you want to accomplish in the business world, you have to make time for your own physical health first; you have to eat healthier meals (and eat regularly), get enough sleep every night and exercise at least a few times a week.
Keeping yourself in better physical shape
will keep you in better mental shape, which means you'll be able to do more in the hours that remain. Besides -- what does business success matter if you're sick and stressed all the time?

Requirement for All New MBEs:
You must attend the following!
All new MBE's must attend a Pre-Certification & Post-Certification training. The training will be held by conference call several times a month for each session. Please make sure to attend one pre-certification & one post-certification training in order to complete the certification process.
