ReadUp All Year Young Adult & Middle Grade Author Events at Greenville Bookstores Fiction Addiction & M. Judson
ReadUp Greenville -- Greenville's YA and middle-grade book festival -- was such a success that we want to keep the excitement (and reading!) going all year! Greenville bookstores Fiction Addiction and M. Judson have teamed up to make that happen, with three events to start the year off.
Our first event, on Wednesday, January 25th, at 5pm at Fiction Addiction in Greenville, will feature these young adult and middle-grade authors as they talk about their latest books: Megan Shepherd, Carrie Ryan, and Jessica Khoury.
Described as "reminiscent of the Chronicles of Narnia" in a starred review, The Secret Horses of Briar Hill (Delacorte, hardcover, $16.99), a new middle-grade novel by Megan Shepherd about winged horses hiding in the mirrors of a children's hospital and the girl who must help keep them safe, shows readers everywhere that there is color in our world -- they just need to know where to look.
The Maze Runner meets Scott Westerfeld in The Hunt (Balzer+Bray, hardcover, $17.99), the second novel in the gripping and romantic Cage young adult series about teens abducted from Earth by an otherworldly race, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Madman's Daughter series.
Megan grew up in her family's independent bookstore in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She is the author of several acclaimed young adult books, and The Secret Horses of Briar Hill is her debut middle-grade novel. Shepherd lives and writes on a 125-year-old farm outside Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband, two cats, and a dog.
Sharp and incisive, Daughter of Deep Silence (Speak, paperback, $10.99), the latest young adult novel by the bestselling author of the Forest of Hands and Teeth series, is a deliciously smart revenge thriller that examines perceptions of identity, love, and the lengths to which one girl is willing to go when she thinks she has nothing to lose.
Carrie is the New York Times bestselling author of multiple books for both middle-grade and young adult readers. Born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, Carrie is a graduate of Williams College and Duke University School of Law. A former litigator, she now writes full time. She lives with her writer/lawyer husband, two fat cats, and one large rescue mutt in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are not at all prepared for the zombie apocalypse.
As time unravels and her enemies close in, jinni Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in The Forbidden Wish (Razorbill, paperback, $9.99, on sale 1/24/17), a dazzling retelling of the Aladdin story from acclaimed young adult author Jessica Khoury.
Jessica holds a BA in English from Toccoa Falls College. When not writing, she spends her time on the soccer pitch or traveling the world. She lives in Easly, South Carolina, with her husband and two dogs. Jessica is also the author of Origin, Vitro, and Kalahari.
On Thursday, February 9th, at 7pm at M. Judson in downtown Greenville, join young adult novelist Ryan Graudin as she discusses her latest young adult novel, Blood for Blood.
Blood for Blood (Little, Brown, hardcover, $17.99) is the action-packed, thrilling sequel to Ryan Graudin's Wolf by Wolf. In the midst of chaos, death camp survivor Yael's past and future collide when she comes face-to-face with a ghost from her past, and a spark with a fellow rider begins to grow into something more. This gripping conclusion will grab readers by the throat with its cinematic writing, fast-paced action, and relentless twists.
Ryan was born in Charleston, South Carolina, with a severe case of wanderlust. When she's not traveling, she's busy photographing weddings, writing, and spending time with her husband and wolf-dog. In addition to Wolf by Wolf and Blood for Blood, she is also the author of The Walled City.
On Wednesday, March 22nd, at 5:30pm at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, join New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins as she discusses her latest young adult novel, The You I've Never Known.
Your book receipt from Fiction Addiction or M. Judson for a copy of Ellen's newest book, The You I've Never Known, is your ticket to this event. We are also offering a Buy 1, Donate 1 ticket priced at $36.23, which will include one copy of The You I've Never Known for the attendee, as well as one additional copy of the book to be signed by Ellen and donated to the Greenville Juvenile Detention Center and other teens in need. Ticketholders age 17 and under may be accompanied by a parent for free.
In bestselling author Ellen Hopkins's The You I've Never Known (McElderry, hardcover, $18.99, on sale 1/24/17), Ariel's emotionally charged journey to find out the truth of who she really is -- was Ariel really kidnapped by her father and not abandoned by her mother? -- balances beautifully with Maya's story of loss and redemption, isolated with a baby on the way after running from her abusive mother and trusting an older man. This is a memorable portrait of two young women trying to make sense of their lives and coming face to face with themselves -- for both the last and the very first time.
Ellen is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of eleven young adult novels in verse, including the Crank trilogy, as well as three adult novels. She lives with her family in Carson City, Nevada, where she has founded Ventana Sierra, a nonprofit youth housing and resource intitiative.
All ReadUp All Year events are ticketed. Your book receipt from either Fiction Addiction or M. Judson is your ticket to the event. See event details for purchase requirements. Books may be purchased online or at the store.
If you cannot make an event, you can reserve a personalized copy of the authors' books by contacting Fiction Addiction or M. Judson in advance.

ReadUp Greenville is an annual celebration of Young Adult and Middle Grades books and authors. By bringing teens in close contact with authors through book signings, panels, and interactive events, the festival will encourage youth to continue their love for reading and hopefully encourage non-readers to become readers. This annual event is a day of celebration, with book sales, author signings, panel discussions, and keynote speakers. The day features multiple panels specific to different themes.
