"Cleanse your skin twice daily" is an admonition so basic it is almost axiomatic, yet there is virtually nothing as important in skin care. Proper skin cleansing is a frequently overlooked yet a crucial ingredient if your goal is healthy, youthful skin.  

Morning cleansing is important to remove the substances excreted by your skin during the nightly self-cleaning process. Evening cleansing removes the excess oil, dirt, bacteria, and general pollution absorbed during the course of the day.

The cleansing agent is equally important. The product used should be effective with a balance of one or more of the hydroxy acids and the pH should be close to the normal slightly acidic pH of healthy skin. All too often we hear that patients are using soap or shampoo (too alkaline) and employing scrubbing granules (too harsh).

Our medical aestheticians usually recommend an ideal product based upon your skin type. My personal favorite is FoxxMD Sanctuary daily cleanser with natural anti-inflammatory bio-elements.

The Clarisonic cleansing brush is an excellent cleansing adjunct. It creates a micro-massage that loosens and removes dirt and oil and is an essential ingredient for clear skin.
