Rebecca's Dream
Changing the Face of Depression
We're Making a Difference
Rebecca's Dream continues to bring awareness and understanding of depression and bipolar disorder as real diseases to individuals and families through media, theater, events, and educational programming. Look at what we've been up to.
Media

WCIU-TV hosts Melissa Forman and Jeanne Sparrow called upon Gail and Norm Cutler, Rebecca's Dream's Co-founders, to speak about signs and symptoms of depression and bipolar disease and when to seek help. The Cutlers touched viewers by sharing their own story about Rebecca and her amazing personality and struggle. Click here to watch the interview.
Theater

A world premiere theatrical production "Tell Me What You Remember," focusing on families and depression, was commissioned by Rebecca's Dream and co-produced with Erasing the Distance. It was presented at Theater Wit in Chicago in December 2014 and again in November 2015.
Events

Rebecca's Dream celebrated May's Mental Health Awareness Month through public education, advocacy campaigns, and Rebecca's Dream Wellness Cards offering free and discounted classes, treatments, and healthy foods from 16 businesses. The four free educational programs designed to raise awareness and promote mental health included the viewing and discussion of the movie Infinitely Polar Bear, Teens and Transitions, a panel discussion at HPHS, "Middle Years", a parent discussion at Edgewood Middle School, and a yoga and meditation class for teens in Highland Park and surrounding communities.
Educational Programming
Teens and Transitions™
The transition from middle school to high school can be difficult for teens. There is no field guide to this transition, and every child experiences the process differently. What is normal? What is not? When should you seek help? A panel discussion led by mental health expert, Dr. Henry Gault,   HPHS Principal Dr. Thomas Koulentes ,  HPHS Counseling Department Chair Alesia Margetis, and HPHS School Psychologist Gus Pappadimas, offered information for parents to help their teens manage the transition to high school. This program was sponsored by District 112.
We Are What We Think
Dr. Michelle Epstein and Dr. Jodi Chase spoke to high school students about creating a healthy lifestyle through a discussion on how our thoughts drive our feelings and behavior, and easy strategies to combat depression and anxiety. Teens were enlightened by how these challenges don't have to define you and with treatment and support they don't have to impair how successful you can be. Following the discussion many students reached out for additional support.
