     I'm a mother, a feminist and a woman of color. I'm in favor of the recall of Judge Aaron Persky.
     Sexual assault is a horrible crime that inflicts severe trauma on all victims. But women of color often experience very severe consequences compared to other victims. In many cultures, women are blamed for the assault very overtly and they are told that it is their fault for allowing it to happen. Police, prosecutors, and judges may devalue the experience of the victim. Stigma, Shame and guilt are overpowering.

      We had purchased our tickets as a group with the express purpose of making it a dress-up event. I chose to be the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khaljī, who is the villain of the piece in the movie Padmaavat. A sea of red, pink, yellow, green ranis dazzled the entrance of the theatre. They spun in waves of ghoomar dance around a yellow turbaned dhol player. As I looked around at the resplendent ranis I felt I had let the Sultan down.

     The positions of the current Congress - tax cuts to the 1 percent, repealing net neutrality, refusing a vote on DACA, and rejecting Medicare for All - have led to a crisis of confidence about whether the body is capable of representing the democratic will of our nation.
Nothing matters more than reforming Congress so it is not beholden to the donor class. That's why we are calling for  a statutory proposal to reverse this slide into plutocracy.
API Task Force Launches Outreach

      The Asian Pacific Islander Human Trafficking Task Force (APIHTTF) of the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON) launched a new outreach campaign to raise awareness of human trafficking in API communities in Los Angeles County and help survivors secure necessary services.

      When we lived in Coimbatore my mom and our neighbor, who was at least twenty years younger than her, became the best of friends. Many an evening, as I walked home from school, I would see mom and her bestie sitting on the stairs with a cup of coffee and a plate of their innovative snacks, chatting and giggling away like teenagers. I couldn't wait to get my hands on their latest creations.
One lazy afternoon in California, my son walked in saying, "Mom, I wish I could have some animal style fries, right about now." And I had a quick flashback to Coimbatore and the snacks that my mother whipped up.  I could have picked up my keys, driven to an In-N-Out - but, I decided to stay home and get creative.
