Recap of Pittsburgh Project
null
From July 10 th through 14 th , eight of Crossroads' middle school students and three adult team leaders traveled to Pittsburgh, PA to bring God's blessing to local residents by helping to uplift and transform their homes into comfortable, secure dwelling spaces. Over the course of the week, the students and team leaders tackled several large-scale projects - from landscaping and lawn care to painting and even electrical rewiring! They not only provided practical services and hands-on support, but they also shined brightly as the embodiment of Jesus' unconditional love.

One of the recipients of their hard work (and hearts' work!) was a Pittsburgh resident named Gloria. She sent the following message to the Crossroads staff and has graciously allowed us to share it with you all:

And so they came, this group of middle school students with smiles from ear to ear, enthusiastic and with a strong desire and willingness to help a senior in need of home repair. Their leader, a common-looking man in shorts, tee shirt, and a baseball cap, arrived to my home over a week ago.

This group worked so hard in the heat and rain and never complained. Eben, Matt, Jack, Meghan and Natalie demonstrated maturity well beyond their years. So respectful, kind, and gracious, I was so blessed to have them come and help me.

I thought this man named Ken was a contractor. The quality of work was excellent and he worked with speed, great strength, and a vast amount. of knowledge. I asked Ken where he worked and was perplexed when he said Oracle. Ok, I thought, maybe he is the head of maintenance.  Still unsure, I had to ask him his last name and later Googled it after they left. Shocked and humbled, I thought that if I would have known that he was an executive, he would not have made it into my home.
But this entire group were heroes. They came when I needed them the most. They were so kind, respectful, mature, and so very helpful. I cannot thank them enough.  I almost said no to this group based on a previous experience. For this group from Crossroads, they treated me with respect and dignity and never asked me for anything. They never asked for anything stored in my garage or even ice water from my fridge. No one said how much it would cost me to have the work done professionally or how much I would be saving by having volunteers do the work.

To their parents and family, I say well done. You have done an excellent job. I pray that Our Heavenly Father abundantly bless this group and protect them. And may we all go in peace and love to serve the Lord.

Sincerely, Gloria

On July 31 - August 3, adults and students will be traveling to Washington DC to lead a VBS experience.  The team will help guide a group of DC elementary kids ages Kindergarten through 5th grade for 4 days in a modified version of Crossroads' Vacation Bible School (Bible stories, music, crafts and games).

Mornings will be spent in the VBS experience at New Community Church. Afternoons will include discipleship with our DC Pastor friend, Jim Melson, to help us to connect to what God is doing in each of our lives through the experience. Jim's discipleship will include some sight-seeing in DC, with a focus on bridging the gap between urban and suburban communities.

Please pray for the DC VBS team:
