Letter

Thanks to everyone who has been sending us their comments and questions about the statewide  medically-tailored meal pilot that we've put together with our Food Is Medicine Coalition colleagues.

I invite you to join me for a Question & Answer session about this new initiative. I'll be trying out Facebook Live on Tuesday, August 1 at 1 pm Pacific Time. I hope you'll tune in to listen, and join in the conversation by adding your questions and thoughts in the "comments" box. Take a moment now to like our Facebook page, and I hope to see you there on Tuesday afternoon.

Thank you for joining with us to create a healthier, more caring community.

In Gratitude,
Cathryn Couch

Iron Springs Pub & Brewery
Benefit for Ceres

Dine and sip at Iron Springs Pub & Brewery in Fairfax for their weekly "Give Back Tuesdays," when 10% of all sales are donated to a local nonprofit. Ceres is the beneficiary on August 22.

Come out and enjoy a meal. You'll be helping us deliver meals to our neighbors facing cancer in Marin County, and to teach teens to cook and eat for health.

*Please note, you do not need to register for this event. Just show up with your friends and enjoy a night out. Iron Springs is happy to take reservations for 6 or more people. You can reach them at 415-485-1005.

NutritionArticle Understanding Fats: Part 1

by Thais Harris, NC
Nutrition Education Manager, Ceres Community Project

It is often a challenge to understand which fats are healthy and which ones are not, when they all have received such a bad reputation. However, it is crucial for our health to consume healthy fats. One of the most important notions to grasp is that eating fat does not equal getting fat, and during the colder months, we need more fat to stay well insulated, maintain body temperature and to assimilate vitamins that support our immune system.
Let's take a look at the different kinds of fats and what they offer us..

Preparing Healing Foods
Cooking from the Garden with Ceres Community Project

Daily Acts is partnering with
Ceres  to bring you an educational and inspiring class focused on healthy eating and creative garden-based cooking. This class will offer an extensive overview of Ceres' nutrient-rich approach while providing useful strategies for managing time in the kitchen and eating well on a budget. Of course no cooking class would be complete without ample time to sample the goods, so after a lively dialogue, you will have the chance to bring a few tasty recipes to life right there in the Ceres Kitchen.

Ceres Among 6 Nonprofits in $6M CA Meal Pilot

Delivery Angel Ina Perlman takes food to client Lorri.
Ceres Community Project - along with five other organizations - will be helping California evaluate the benefits of medically-tailored meals for people with serious illness.

We've already received numerous calls from supporters who read about this project in our local paper, and we want to make it clear that while the amount budgeted for the pilot was $6 million dollars, that entire amount has not been designated for Ceres. There are 6 groups involved in the pilot, and it's not yet clear how much of that funding will be allocated to Ceres to allow us to reach more clients. We want to make it clear that for service to our existing clients, we do--and will continue to--rely on your support....

GNP We Count On Your Help

If you haven't already, please share your experience as a volunteer, client or donor. By inspiring others to join in, you help widen the circle of people working together to build community, mentor youth and nourish our neighbors in health crisis.

Your vote makes a world of difference to us and to many others.
