Record Store Day at Grimey's - April 18th 10am-8pm

We are jazzed to announce our plans for this year's Record Store Day! This is the 8th RSD and Grimey's is proud to have participated in every one since the very first year. Here's what we've got going on this year...

Both stores will open at 10am. All of the Record Store Day releases will be at Grimey's Too, right next door to Grimey's. We should have everything that's on the official list and some that are not. If you want to line up or camp out to get in line for the RSD releases, please form line in the alley behind Grimey's and The Basement. Our Frothy Monkey pals will show up around 6:30am to move the line to the deck and start serving fresh hot coffee and breakfast burritos to the faithful, so save your appetite and thirst, no need to walk and get crappy gas station coffee & snacks. We'll have a DJ on the deck while you wait and later on Frothy will be hosting an all-day party on the deck with a grill offering Bratwurst and all beef dogs along with veggie skewers. There will be DJs spinning vinyl and guest instrumentalists throughout the day. We'll also be joined by Hattie B's hot chicken and Crankees Pizzeria food truck to spice things up. We'll have our biggest sidewalk sale yet with thousands of $1 records & CDs. Local low power/high voltage radio start-up WXNA, local info site Do615 and analog recording gurus Welcome To 1979 will join in on the fun and there will be the usual table of free RSD swag and other goodies plus chances to win tons of free concert tickets and other cool prizes throughout the day!

We've got a full afternoon of live music in the back lot behind Grimey's, beginning at noon. I'm stoked to announce that our special surprise guest is one of my favorite rock bands of the '90s, and all time really - JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION!!! They will play at 3:30 here and then they have a show later in the evening at Mercy Lounge. Don't miss this incredibly exciting band. They are one of the best live acts of all time (if you like to rock). Come out for a free taste and then don't miss the full assault later at Mercy. All the live sets are free and all ages. Here's the time line for live performances:

We are already selling it and wristbands are available now but don't worry, this is a new release not a limited RSD thing and we have plenty of stock. If you can't make it by until Saturday we'll have it available then but I encourage you to come on by and get your wristband earlier if you can. There may be a line at check out on this very busy day and you don't want to miss anything.

Thanks to Keith Brogdon for the kick-ass poster design! We'll have t-shirts featuring his art for sale on Record Store Day as well, in all sizes.

We've got tons of cool free stuff for you and some sweet RSD swag like posters, RSD ambassador Dave Grohl buttons and totes. We'll also have all kinds of things you can win, from concert tickets to test pressings. Here's a rundown of all the contests we'll have running on Record Store Day:

This Saturday, enter to win a pair of tickets to this year's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, June 11th - 14th in Manchester, Tennessee. Featured performers this year include Mumford & Sons, Courtney Barnett, Belle & Sebastian, Alabama Shakes, Temples, Sturgill Simpson, D'angelo, Kacey Musgraves, Pokey LaFarge, Robert Plant, My Morning Jacket, Ben Folds, Reggie Watts, Earth, Wind & Fire, The War on Drugs, Spoon, Slayer & many, many more!!

The Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky is coming up, July 17th - 19th. This year the festival serves as a home for local brews, food trucks & curated Kentucky crafts, the API Poster Show and a ton of fantastic music! Performers include Sam Smith, Modest Mouse, Houndmouth, Tweedy (Jeff!), Tallest Man on Earth, Shovels & Rope, First Aid Kit, Sturgill Simpson, Jeff The Brotherhood, The Steeldrivers, My Morning Jacket, Noah Gunderson, Cage the Elephant and many, many more. You can enter to win a pair of passes to this year's Forecastle Festival here on Record Store Day!

We're also giving away a "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music" poster signed by Strugill Simpson--a great man, a fantastic album, a lovely poster.

We're holding a special early morning giveaway for a pair of tickets to see Damien Rice at the Carl Black Chevy Woods Amphitheater (formerly known as the Fontanel) on Sunday, August 16th in Whites Creek, TN. We're also throwing in a test pressing of "My Favourite Faded Fantasy," a Damien Rice canvas tote bag and a copy of the "I Don't Want To Change You" CD. If you find yourself here early in the morning, in line to buy Record Store Day exclusives, be on the lookout for your chance to enter this giveaway!

Butch Walker celebrated the release of his new album "Afraid Of Ghosts" with us in February, when he performed a fantastic set in the store. Now he's back in town and playing at War Memorial Auditorium on Sunday, May 17th. We're giving away a pair of tickets to the show and a signed poster that you can enter to win here on Record Store Day.

Have you checked out the City Winery yet? On May 1st Delta Rae performs there with Greg Holden and you can win tickets here. It would be the perfect time to catch some great music and visit one of Nashville's newest venues.

Do you like records? How about rare records? Why not enter to win a limited and rare test pressing? Enter to win mystery test pressings all day! We've got a stack of them donated by our pals at Warner Brothers Records. Who knows what you might get?!?!

Almost twenty years ago, Modest Mouse released their debut full-length album, This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. 2015 has seen the release of a brand new record, Strangers To Ourselves, as well as reissues of their first LP, The Lonesome Crowded West, Interstate 8 (!), and Building Nothing Out Of Something. As a special thank you to independent record stores, Isaac Brock reprinted lovely copies of the photograph used for the cover art for This Is A Long Drive..., signed them, and sent them out for us to share with our customers. On Record Store Day, you can enter to win one of these special, numbered photos. Just remember to share you favorite Modest Mouse story on your entry.

Ok, the part I don't like talking about... We're looking at the same forecast as you. It's been looking like rain on Saturday for days but today the forecast became more favorable. So pray or wish really hard or do the voodoo that you do to bestow a nice, dry day upon us. If it does rain, the bands will play inside the Basement and we'll cancel the sidewalk sale and deck party. We'll still have all the amazing RSD exclusive releases inside Grimey's Too and we'll find places for our community partners but it will be a significantly scaled-down event. And that does not rock, but we'll make it all happen the best we can.

See you Saturday!
