Recycle wide range of items at Fair!
12th Annual Earth Day RECYCLING Fair
Env. Com. table is one of many drop-spots at fair. Members pictured (l to r): Mary Reece, Sarah Roberts, Michelle Jacobs, Frank Derby, and Debbie Gartenberg.
Sun., April 23
Noon to 3 PM
Rain or shine
Upper Middle School
375 Burnt Hill Rd, Skillman

This year's Recycling Fair will repeat last year's focus - a recycling-only event - with logistics and location improvements.

There will be drive-up drop-off stations set up along the curb at UMS, and another lane to loop around toward a paper shredding truck, and metal & electronics dumpsters.

Residents are invited to drop off metal (e.g. tools, pots & pans, yard furniture), electronics (e.g. printers, computer monitors), and bring boxes or bags of confidential documents for shredding (no 3-ring binders).

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office will collect unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications (no needles or sharps).
Other groups will accept gently used clothing, shoes and jeans; business attire (to benefit Dress for Success); new personal hygiene products (to benefit Rescue Mission of Trenton); children's books (to benefit the Carolyn Stokes Preschool in Trenton); adult and children bicycles (for Boys & Girls Club of Trenton); sneakers & sporting goods (to support Kicks 4 Caribya ); golf clubs (to benefit First Tee of Raritan); crayons, markers, highlighters and dry erase markers; printer cartridges (TechnicianX), and more.

There will also be a canned goods/supply drive to benefit Montgomery Township's Food Pantry. The Pantry asks for specific donations such as cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper goods (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper), canned tuna & canned chicken, mayonnaise, cake & brownie mix, frosting, and canned fruit.

A full list of items residents can drop-off to be recycled (which is still growing!) can be found at  www.edf.montgomery.nj.us

"The recycling aspect of our annual Fair is a big hit with the community so we decided to focus exclusively on collections this year. The Fair has attracted as many as a thousand people in recent years," said Mary Reece, chairperson of Montgomery Township's Environmental Commission.  "It's the township's biggest community-wide environmental event."

Last year 10,465 lbs of paper was shredded, over 40 cubic yards of metal were recycled, and an astonishing 100 cubic yards of electronics were recycled at the fair.

"Strong community support for over 10 years has helped promote environmentally friendly and sustainable actions in Montgomery," Reece said.

To learn more, register your organization to collect and recycle an item or items, volunteer or sponsor the event, go to  http://edf.montgomery.nj.us/  or contact Lauren Wasilauski at 908-359-8211 extension 343 or  lwasilauski@twp.montgomery.nj.us .

This year's fair will again feature free and secure computer & electronics recycling. For more, click on photo.
