Across The Pond
Last week I had the pleasure of chatting with cheesemonger Amy Thompson from Lucy's Whey. She was at the New Amsterdam Market sampling out cheese made by Keeley McGarr in upstate NY. One bite and I was hooked. Across the Pond is Keeley's signature cheese. It is made from the raw cow's milk of her family's dairy farm and it has a washed rind. Slightly pungent in aroma, it gives way to a mildly buttery, fruity flavor with notes of grass and earth. I love its long tangy finish and spreadable consistency. We'd pair it with a Riesling from the Finger Lakes. |

Lazy Lady's La Petite Tomme
A delicious little round of creamy, brie-like goat cheese with a thin bloomy rind. These little tommes are perfect Summer eating; smooth, rich, and silky in texture with a goaty tang and mushroom undertones. Lazy Lady Farm is owned by Laini Fondiller in Vermont and is completely off the grid. We think she makes some of the best goat's milk cheeses we've tasted! |
