A Life That'll Make You Want To Jump for Joy

Jump In Sunday

It's been fun watching the photos you all have been sending in for our Jump In Sunday photo contest: you've been skydiving and jumping on the beach, jumping into pools and getting your kids and grandkids to jump on your behalf. So often, your photos are full of overflowing, extravagant joy.

I feel that same joy when I think about how good life in Christ is--how beautiful it is to claim God's unconditional love and let it change me. And also about how excellent it is to be a part of a community like this congregation. It makes all the difference in the world to know that we a part of a church community of diverse people who enjoy being together--who share sorrow and joy in beautiful ways.

This Sunday, there will be extra opportunities to "jump in" to the life of this church--to try out new ways of serving and growing, to meet new people, to learn new things. I hope you will be here to share in the excitement, and to jump into a life that reflects the amazing love of God.

with gratitude and hope,

Pastor Molly

Help Make Prayer Worship Banners

We invite you to help us make beautiful new prayer banners for our worship by writing a prayer of your own on a paper cross. This Sunday, colored crosses will be available, and everyone is encouraged to add their own prayer to one. They will be put together as new banners for the sanctuary this fall. Any prayer--whatever prayer is on your heart--is a beautiful contribution to this paper tapestry of our congregation. Please stop by the table in Fellowship Hall to be a part of this project.
News from our Sunday School: Fall Plans
For Children (age 3-3rd grade):
A new Sunday School curriculum is coming this Fall, called "Spark."

Spark lessons are based on the same Bible texts as Pastor Molly preaches on, using the Revised Common Lectionary--this will help kids get more out of both Worship and Sunday School.  It also means that your kids will get the same message on a Sunday morning that you do!

4 Reasons we're excited about Spark!

1) Spark is bible centered programming at its best. Kids will be interacting with their Bibles in every lesson

2) Spark is action packed with hands-on activities such as interactive games and creative crafts

3) Lessons are presented in both a large group setting and separate age-level classes - allowing us to meet every child's learning needs.

4) This curriculum is EASY and convenient for our volunteers- empowering leaders to feel confident in their teaching with simple on-line leader guides and lesson prep videos.

For Church R Us (4th & 5th Grades):
For our Church R Us class, we are using a curriculum called

Connect, which gives kids a better understanding of how the Bible stories weave together.  The lessons take us through the bible chronologically in 2 years, helping children explore themes and ideas of each story, and the bible as an entire book. Each week includes a fun introduction, time to read the scripture, talk about the lesson as a group, watch a fun video illustration, and if time permits, do an activity. It is a fun way to transition this age group into thinking deeper about how the bible applies to our lives.

For Middle School (Grades 6-8):
The Middle School (6-8th grade) class, which meets every other week, gives youth get the opportunity to do some deeper bible study, and also spend time in worship regularly.  For the first 6 lessons, we will be using a series from the Connect Curriculum that takes us through major stories in the Gospels and shows the parallels in several stories.  In the Spring, we will be exploring the life and writings of Paul in the New Testament.

Also, be sure to attend our

"Jump into Sunday School" Open Meeting on Sunday, September 15th from 10:30am-11am

Everyone is invited to attend and hear about the many
ways to be a part of this ministry!

Join our New Prayer Quilt Ministry
We are starting a prayer quilt ministry, which will offer a chance for people to give prayer quilts to others who are in special need of prayer.

On Saturday, September 28, from 10am-noon, we will meet up at the church for sewing and preparing our first quilts. Anyone (regardless of sewing ability) is welcome to join us then. You are also invited to bring with you a 12"x12" quilt square that you've made to add together into a sampler quilt--you can use any pattern for your square, as long as you use blue fabrics (in any shade of blue). You are also encouraged to bring your sewing machine and/or iron. RSVP to Pastor Molly--this workshop will be hosted by Brigitte Ahrens and Pastor Molly Vetter.

Additionally, you can support this quilt ministry in several ways: by piecing your own quilt top (lap quilt size--approximately 40"x60"), by donating 100% cotton quilting fabric or quilt batting or #5 Pearl Cotton thread.

Our October prayer quilting meet-up is scheduled for Friday, October 25 from 10am-noon.

Is the church included in your estate plan?

Do you have a will or trust? Good family financial stewardship includes having an estate plan in place. We believe this should be your first step.

As you make Estate plans, we encourage you to consider including a gift to the church. Our church Endowment Fund accepts gifts from estates and members--the Fund is invested for growth and income with all capital gains reinvested and only dividends and income are used to support the operation and mission of the church. Your gifts and grants to the Endowment Fund will go on into the future generating unending support.

Currently, the Endowment Fund provides approximately $2,500 per month to support our church ministries. The Fund has been built by the thoughtful gifts and tithes from the estates of prior members.

See your financial planner, lawyer or member of the Endowment Committee for a recommended Estate Planning Specialist or for more information about our Endowment.

Job Opening: Part-time Youth Assistant

We are currently seeking a part-time Youth Assistant to help with planning and leadership for our Sunday Middle School youth meetings. For more information visit our webpage or email Caroline.

A Small Group Class for Adults on Faith

Pastor Molly will lead a new seven-session class on faith on Tuesday nights, starting October 8, from 7:15-8:30. This adult course imaginatively explores central topics of Christianity. In each session, we will watch a video featuring a leading voice from the Christian faith, spend time on personal reflection and journaling, and share ideas with the group. Each session delves into a faith topic: God, religion, Jesus, salvation, the cross, the Bible and church.

It is recommended that participants purchase a $15 workbook designed for the class; RSVP if you would like to participate so we can order the books for you.
