Thank You
Marv and Donna Davison would like to share their thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of them in these days since their son Stephen's death. Thanks, especially, to the UMW--particularly the Naomi Circle--for such a beautiful reception at his service.

FYI---Our parking lot is scheduled for some much needed TLC the week of June 17th.  We will be digging up the entire lot, regrading, filling, surfacing, and painting the entire lot.  It is a week long project, so our lot will be closed to cars through the 21st.  The office will remain open with access from the street along the pathway in front of the nursery building.

Memories and Reflection

My extended family's farm in central Nebraska.

This weekend, I'm traveling to Nebraska for a visit to my family--one more visit to the place I grew up, before my parents retire to live in Colorado's rockies later this summer. On Sunday, I will worship in the little church I was confirmed in--my father will preach (and, he tells me, I get to read the scripture lesson). I'm looking forward to being there, to visit some of the places and people who have helped shape me. I'll see my grandfather, and visit the land my uncles farm. I will miss being with you all, but know you're in very good hands.

I'm looking forward to time there, and hope it will offer some time for reflection.

I've heard little hints that many of you have been faithful in joining our congregational prayer practice this week. (While attempting a frustratingly slow re-install of some computer software, one of our staff members joked that this would probably be a good time for those breath prayers...) You're trying it during yoga, between snooze alarms, in the car and more. I'd love to hear about how it's been for you.

This coming week, starting Sunday, we'll invite you to another practice--one rooted in reflection. I trust it will be a meaningful way to connect to God, and hope you'll join me.

My thanks to everyone helping lead worship this Sunday, including Kim Edwards, who will preach. She's a seminary student and friend of mine; a Redondo Beach native, she's been a television news reporter and has worked in non-profit public relations. I know she'll be a blessing to us all!

with gratitude,

Pastor Molly

Ice Cream Sunday
Ice Cream Sundaes, celebrating Kathy Martens
Sunday, June 2, 10:30-11 a.m.

Join us for a special (& tasty) celebration of our Children and Family Ministries, to thank Kathy Martens for her years directing this ministry.

All members and friends of the church and our ministries are welcome to join us for the celebration and fellowship. We will have a special opportinity to give thanks to God for the beatiful things that have happened in our Childrens and Family Ministries during the past decade, with the leadership of Kathy Martens, who will leave her position as Director of this ministry at the end of June.

It's not a "farewell," and we're very glad Kathy and her family will continue to be active leaders in our congregation, but we don't want to miss this opportunity to give thanks for these years of leadership and the wonderful ministries she's helped grow.

Ice cream will be provided--just come ready to celebrate! Thank you to our United Methodist Women for hosting the celebration.

A Special Gift for Kathy:

We want to present Kathy with a book full of memories at the end of her term as Director of Children's Ministries.  She's served us so lovingly and faithfully for 10 years that we think this will be a special way to show her how much we love her back.  We hope each family will participate.  Circles, Groups, Youth and kids are welcome to prepare their individual pages too.  We may have a multi-volume Memory Book but that's even better!

We are not setting "rules" for the book, except the size of page (12x12) and the due-date (June 9).

We want each page to be your own creation.  Some ideas include: write your own special and unique memories, include photographs or perhaps programs/artwork from special events in which your child participated, a special poem that reminds you of Kathy, a loving letter or meaningful sketches...

You may select and purchase your own special color or design of 12x12 scrapbook paper if you'd like. We will have pages available on the patio, starting Sunday, May 19 so that you may pick up a sheet for your family, take it home and decorate it.  We need you to return it the office by June 9th.

We are not even going to try to keep the creation of this Memory Book a surprise for Kathy.  But, don't show her your pages because that part should be a surprise!

"Congratulations to one of our church's young high school students for being a part of Redondo Union High School's winning girls relay team. Erin South, Nina Dooley's daughter, and her fellow teammates Kayla, Anevay and Amber, won the 1,600 meter relay Division II crown last week-end and moved on to the CIF Masters meet. By now the Masters meet is history, but you may wish to talk to Erin about this experience when next you see her.

This is a time of year when our people begin ..."
