Inspired by the Saints

As I think of the people who will be named in our All Saints' Day Remembrance this year, I'm inspired (as usual) by the ways they have taught me how to be a Christian.

I'm filled with gratitude for saints like Bob Crownover. I still sometimes think I see him walking around campus with a slow and careful walk, taking care of it with such love and dedication. I think of his genuine prayers, his love of learning, his pride in humble work.

I think of Pauline Dobson, who I knew only through the stories of others, but whose dedication to the life of the church and community was clear. I imagine tasting her Christmas cookies, hearing her soprano voice soar in the choir, and watching her capable organizing through the PTA.

I give thanks for Andy Quintero, whose passion for life and spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship was contagious. Of the way he came to complement his wife, Cristine, so beautifully, and of partnership and adventures they shared.

I am grateful for the love and legacy of Laura Johnson, and for so many others. For the loved ones so many of you grieve, who have helped shape you to be the people you are.

It is one of the blessings of life that we share in community with others, and that, even through death, we know ourselves to be united to a community that exists in Christ and binds us together.

My prayer for this week is that the great love shown in the lives of those who've gone before us, and in the saints among us now, will help all of us find ways to live life more fully and to love God and neighbor more completely.

grace and peace,

Pastor Molly

The heart of Christian ministry is Christ's ministry of outreaching love. Through our baptism, we are called to express this love through acts of witness, service, celebration and discipleship. [Book Of Discipline, 126]. To help us do this, the Membership Committee is asking you to Check into Church through this questionnaire. It'll only take a few minutes to complete and there's a fun "Bonus" question at the end! Be sure to stop by our booth during our Social Hour on Sunday so we can reward you for Checking Into Church!  If you want assistance completing the questionnaire, some of the committee members and staff will be available at this same time on Sunday to assist you.

Last Sunday I was in Oklahoma visiting my grandson and his family. Born here in the South Bay, he, the wife and two babies moved there some years back. Now, when I visit I go to church there and it's a lot different. Oh, how I missed our church family and our outstanding Pastor Molly.
