CARPC Adopts 2019 Work Program
On September 13 th , 2018 the Commission voted to adopt the 2019 Work Program for the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission. In the coming year the agency looks forward to focus much of its work around the following strategies.

  1. Leverage CARPC’s region-wide activities, including supporting A Greater Madison Vision, developing an updated land use plan, and the water quality plan.
  2. Strengthen CARPC’s relevance for local officials and their constituents by focusing on regional planning and building bridges with locals.
  3.  Tell the story of what CARPC and regional planning bring to the party for municipalities – communicate the value and “what is” regional planning – as well as highlighting successful initiatives and progress among our communities.

For more details on how CARPC intends to address these strategies you can download the complete work program here.
Reducing Increased Risk of Flooding
Over the past month many communities in our region have suffered through record rainfalls and historic flooding. Initial damage estimates by Dane County Emergency Management are in excess of $154 million dollars. As our region continues to recover many are wondering what can be done to reduce flood risk.

In May of last year, a joint Stormwater Technical Advisory Committee of the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission and the Dane County Lakes and Watersheds Commission published their report, Recommendations on Reducing Increased Risk of Flooding . The report is an important resource for decision makers and the public seeking to understand some of the steps our region will need to take to begin to address flooding.
A Greater Madison Vision Launches Scenario Survey
The word is out and people are completing an innovative new way to gather public input on our region's growth and development. A Greater Madison Vision's web-based survey launched on September 12 with a day of kick-off events all around Dane County. Available in Hmong, Spanish and English, the 10-minute survey allows people to explore and rank their top priorities for how we welcome and accommodate over 150,000 new people in our area in the next 25 years.

Your opinion matters too - visit greatermadisonvision.com today to try it out. For news and project updates, please like A Greater Madison Vision on Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/GreaterMadisonVision/ ) and Twitter ( https://twitter.com/OurSharedVision ) and actively encourage others to take the survey. We need 10,000 people to participate!
