Rensselaer County (exact route TBA soon)

DISCLAIMER

While the route is still being finalized, we expect this to be a very challenging march that will include rural roads and hills in eastern Rensselaer County.  Marchers are encouraged to consider their own physical capabilities before registering for this event.  A liability waiver will be mailed to each marcher who registers and will need to be signed and returned to Heroes at Home before the Ruckmarch.  Transportation will be provided for those who begin the march but find that they are unable to complete it.

Join us for the Heroes at Home Inaugural Patriot Ruckmarch, a 23 mile road march through Rensselaer County to raise awareness about the challenges experienced by our Military.

No one marches alone!

Did you know...?  The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that there are 52,000 Veterans living in Rensselaer County and the surrounding five counties.  Members of the military, from World War II to the War on Terror, experience a myriad of challenges, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, substance abuse and mental health problems, and problems associated with reintegration, such as finding employment and stable housing.

Why support Heroes at Home?  Heroes at Home is one of eleven NYS funded PFC Joseph Dwyer Peer to Peer Programs. We provide peer support to anyone who has served in the military, as well as their families, regardless of discharge status, era in which they served or combat experience.  Since 2012, we have partnered with the VA, the VFW and American Legion, and community providers to ensure that Veterans have access to services, and to provide support as they navigate the reintegration process.  More specifically, we have:

  • hired two full-time Veterans to provide outreach in communities across Rensselaer County
  • established "drop-in" centers in Troy, Rensselaer and Hoosick Falls
  • provided individual and group support to 28 Veterans and family members
  • provided evidence-based suicide prevention training to 18 members of the military community
  • hosted several social outreach and informational events serving apporximately 150 Veterans/families
  • advocated extensively for State policies sensitieve to the unique needs of our military

All of the money raised will be used to support our local Veterans through the efforts of Heroes at Home.
