2011 SIERRA INNOVATION SUMMIT 

Friday, September 16th, Sierra College, Rocklin

What does economic recovery look like for the Sierra Nevada Region? What are the opportunities and tools necessary to keep our region innovating and thriving? Explore these questions and more as Sierra Business Council guides you through keynote speeches and a series of sessions that catalyze business and rural entrepreneurship. 

 

THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WILL BE ADDRESSED

  • Workforce development for resource and restoration economy-based jobs
  • Rural entrepreneurs present outcomes from the 2011 Sierra Leadership Institute 
  • California Stewardship Network policy agenda
  • For Sierra businesses: Sustainable business practices, leveraging technology for better business operations and gaining support for rural broadband development, and accessing capital in the new economy

RURAL ENERGY & CLIMATE POLICY FORUM
Wednesday, September 28th, Sacramento, CA

Rural local government staff and officials are invited to a

daylong gathering with California state government to define strategies to build a strong economy, create jobs, improve public health and move to a clean energy future in rural communities through implementing the goals of AB 32, the Global Warming Solution Act.

 

THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WILL BE ADDRESSED: 

  • Status of AB 32 in the Brown Administration, the AB 32 Scoping Plan and other AB 32 drivers, and the reach of the Sustainable Communities Strategies applicable to rural communities
  • CEQA and Greenhouse Gas emissions in the project approval process
  • Current trends, policies and issues related to energy, climate, environment and economy that are affecting rural communities
  • Energy and climate solution strategies that can be embraced by rural local governments
  • Role of Codes and Standards in moving toward highly energy efficient buildings
  • "Energy Aware Planning Guide" as a tool to assist local governments
